Still waiting for PS4 8.xx. Jailbreaks always seem on old firmware thats been expired. I didnt have much interest before as I dont mind buying the games I play, however I seen a video which shows a PS4 cheat engine type app, fully modded games, debug menus and so forth, that kind of unlocking is interesting. Its stopped me selling my ps4 pro with the hope I can jailbreak it. I wont jail break my ps5 though.

So we might have jailbreak out before that the PS5 reach the store 🙂 Fantastic...

It seems the SONY console is more prone to piracy than the Xbox One or the currently Xbox Series XIS, both who knows, maybe one day they shall break them to..

Is Sony still using a BSD kernel like they did back in the PS3 days? Being an AMD platform, I would be super curious to see Linux or FreeBSD being benchmarked, since the open-source drivers ought to work fine.

One of the reasons why someone is rushing to jailbreak PS5 (besides geting rewarded by Sony for finding exploit) could be also: jaibreak PS5, install Linux ...cough... cough ...HiveOS, Mining OS ...cash in on those willing to pay for modding their PS5s that way so they could do crypto mining.

Sony will patch the exploit within a week anyway.

I don't think they really need to. Sony knows that their patches will eventually just get broken again anyway (so it isn't worth the effort to stop), and they can always encourage game devs to break compatibility or banning from online play for "anti-cheat" purposes.

What is this 'Anti-cheat' you speak of?

It's quite possible to get a PS5 if one is willing to invest a little time and effort 🙂

I don't know of one, but I would be shocked to find if there wasn't a built-in anti-cheat system that just works silently in the background. Though, Denuvo is supposed to come to PS5, and I'm sure that will be inspecting firmware verisons.

Of course they are going to patch this exploit. Even if all the current 10.5 million PS5 owners, don't update their PS5s firmware, Sony will be protecting all future released consoles. There's a good chance the PS5 will sell more than 100 million units. They are not going to leave all these consoles with an open exploit. But of course most people will update their PS5's, because it's just normal to do so, and they get new features and improvements. After patching up the firmware, hackers will have to try to find some other vector to attack the PS5 security. And if they find it first, Sony will patch it up. It's a cat and mouse game. And Sony can't afford sit idle. Otherwise it will be a disaster like the Dreamcast.

I'm not sure you understood what I was trying to say: Sony will continue to make patches to the firmware, of which would most likely undo the jailbreak without deliberately targeting it. They could make the firmware harder to jailbreak, but Sony knows it's just a matter of time until it just gets broken into again. So, now that there's the potential for non-Sony firmware to exist, all they have to do is make games or built-in security look for checksum issues and just simply lock gamers out of certain features. Sony isn't new to this concept, they've done something similar with PS3. By the time PS5 gets obsoleted, Sony won't care if it gets jailbroken because it's no longer an economic threat. Dreamcast came at a time when updates (especially to consoles) were rare. It's easy to doom a system like Dreamcast when Sega didn't really have a way to release a patch.

I wonder if its related to those weird amd 4700s boards, I feel like dumping the firmware of those would make it alot easier to find holes in the bootloader.

Sony will probably just pay the hacker for what method they used to jailbreak the PS5 an patch it in next firmware, so can't be exploited anymore. Hacker gets paid and Sony keep developers happy with piracy protection.

I paid retail price by buying in a normal store at the beginning of this year.

Piracy is one thing for Single Player games but once jail broken i take it you can never go online with it ever again. Unless there's another way to avoid firmware updates and installing Linux sound cool but could you still install steam and go online? I doubt it.

things are getting interesting.... Sony & TSMC are building a joint foundry in Japan....
