It's only that "cheap" if you buy them in 1000-unit orders, unless i'm reading something wrong here.

2990 is almost half the price at 1000 unit order prices for the 3175, so the 3175 being faster in some scenarios, i'd kinda hope so. This could be due to the 6-channel ram vs the 4-channel ram, among other differences between platforms. As to the gaming thing, i don't understand why that is even being tested on these processors, these are not gaming processors. That being said, it's already known that threadripper processors don't do well at gaming and some software (i forget what it's called, was posted in this forum a little while ago) help threadripper gaming performance quite a bit in some scenarios. After watching a bit of that review it seems that where the 3175x beats the 2990 pretty significantly, the 9900k usually beats the 2990 as well, and all that tells me is that it's a poorly done benchmark since it obviously is favoring frequency over cores. Remember, the 2990 all-core boost is 3.4Ghz, whereas the 3175x all-core boost is 3.8Ghz, so in something that favors frequencies but also "can" deal with more then 8-cores, the 3175 will ofcourse shine. This is to be expected.

Thats how prices are always listed for non-consumer parts (ie. basically a supplier price list). A server-focused supplier/retailed could order 1000 and sell them off.

meh if you can afford to buy 1000 of them for 3 grand a pop and then you marked up and charge nearly 5 grand each for them inc VAT. 4700 $ after VAT seems to be the known price.

Yeah, Wendell from L1Techs / L1Linux had found a solution to the problem plaguing TR 2990WX's multithreading performance, unlocked significantly more perf out of the chip. the problem with this is that regular users won't be aware of it - and that ultimately negates the point. From an OOTB perspective that perf can't be counted... yet! Hopefully Microsoft addresses the OS side of the problem and lets TR run better

I like GN but they (and most reviewers) desperately need to drop the 1080p benchmarks, some of those in the GN video were even 1080p at medium settings. No offense is meant to anyone gaming on older hardware, but it is doubtful that anybody spending several thousand on a new system is playing at 1080p. The few people I know with a high refresh Gsync or Freesync even play at 1440p+. There is little appreciable difference between most recent, high-end CPUs when gaming @ 4K.

You're referring to the NUMA fix for Windows scheduler - here's a link for anyone interested: https://bitsum.com/portfolio/coreprio/ For any 2990/2970 owners, that should bring performance up to the 2950X for any tasks which were slow due to Windows scheduler problems (some games as well).

It's hard to know whether the price of the chip is because it has low demand and therefore high price, or whether intel is just price gouging an industry where the data centre is...

That is done to induce a CPU bottleneck. Why show the bottleneck point of a GPU in a CPU test?

Problem is, the Xeon also costs considerably more.... TR 2990WX is around $1700... For the price of that Xeon alone, you could build a TR 2990WX based system....

I'd be surprised if you can buy one individually since the boards are supposedly SI order only. GN claims the Asus board they used costs $1700 for an SI to purchase. If that's true, that motherboard alone costs almost as much as a TR 2990WX.....

Yes, there is a problem with the scheduler in Windows that only seems to affect Threadripper.... If it affected Intel, MS would have fixed it by now.

MB will cost so much since this bard will be sold max 1000~2500 units and they need to recover the Development. it's just 1 CPU MB and will be left in the dust in next Intel release.

There's currently no consumer board available for this processor, if I understood the GN review properly. The Xeon W-3175X isn't exactly a consumer targeted processor.
