Why only BGA option? did they found a problem making reliable socket for it?

There goes Intel glueing cores together after they criticized AMD for it. https://forums.guru3d.com/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/rolleyes.png
To be fair, and I bring history here. Pentium D as I recall glue together and to my view rush or improvised. I remember we all thought that intel was behing AMD true 2 core Athlons.
Now, Ryzen may be glue together, but in a very smart way 🙂 not improvised.

I might sell my gas fire and get one of these instead.

Might have to do with the fact that there are 5903 contacts, which is immense.
Its hard to tell actual size, but it looks like this processor may be a smidge larger then a threadripper/epyc processor, yet has almost 2000 more contacts.
Unless this chip is larger then it appears ofcourse, the pin pitch between the threadripper and this one are supposedly around the same which would imply its a bit bigger then a threadripper
Imagine this, which 2000 more contacts.

400watts ( i bet it will pull way more than that under 100% load ) , i think even a water chiller wont be enough to cool this heat monster :/

Intel has full control over the Cascade Lake AP systems. They build the server, OEMs only get to customize and add extra features. So that means Intel mainboard with Intel CPU, its easier to just use BGA to attach the CPU permanently, instead of designing yet a new socket for it.
LGA3647 already had certain mounting problems, where you could lose memory channel and problems like that, because the socket was way too huge, so they probably wanted to avoid problems like that.

I cannot picture anyone dropping this kind of Dime on a cpu but...Seeing they gotta compete with Amd its understandable of course. Maybe use em in those Super-computers and what not?

C'mon guys, 3rd page in and nobody has asked if it can run at least 28 instances of Crysis at the same time, surely ... ?
