Yeah for how much money? 3K$? "Desktop"

that is beautiful. It will create a trickle down effect for sure. By the way, i do believe cinebench15 is not a very reliable benchmark when the scores are close to 10,000 cos the benchmark does not run long enough. Any word on TDP?

looks like skylake-SP is coming to desktop, never thought something like that would happen. 700mm^2 aint gonna be cheap , I wonder what would trigger them to produce such a thing. almost seems like they've been spooked by something. for perspective the 28core skylake-sp Xeon Platinum 8180 with hexa channel memory has an msrp of $10K

I wonder how Intel still plans to release new CPUs that are still 5% behind their performance because they still haven't worked around Spectre.

desktop? what makes it desktop? this is server stuff. I smell core wars incoming LOL

28 cores at 5GHz is NUTS

So if AMD's EPIC processors were "dies glued together", I'm wondering how intel will pull this off, without any "glue" !?

They will just fold a dollar bill under the heat spreader, on top of the dies. According to Intel's logic, money is all that matters and it solves all the problems.

Or 1 core at 5GHz..

Look @ the picture. 5ghz on ALL cores 😉

https://i.imgur.com/RcE5tlh.png What in tarnation is that!?? oh thats right, the cpu at 5ghz probably draws >800W 😀 Must be a connection to some sort of external cooling.

I think it's cold water cooling (chiller?)

28 cores @ 5GHz. What intel board has like 600W+ VRMs for CPU? I can see a lot of burning SMDs. Some cool explosions and magic smoke.

Looks like a bit of a PR stunt. The perception that they are king of more cores.

Probably just LN2 cooling.

the math is easy, the power draw of the current xeon 22 core is 145 w TDP 2,2 Ghz al cores, real TDP all cores 2,2 Ghz is close to 200W. This is one tic-toc back from current 8 line coffee lake, if they already got a working chip like cinebench show is on 14nm++ node and on coffee lake architecture so is the same process fab current top of the line 8700k etc etc.... to get 5 Ghz they need to remove all xeon pro stuff (ecc memory, locked multiplier, etc) and make it a core i9, then when you overclock a i9 extreme K processor now to 5Ghz you're close to 450W on 18 cores just the chip, if you do that on 28 cores at the same process node and architecture coffee lake you will get 700W REAL TDP, on the biggest package you current get from intel you need a chiller water cooler or better to take that power out of that chip. no way a 420mm radiator with 8 fans can blow that power out. By the way, there is no board that can deliver 700W without water cooling VRM's.

Moar Cores! Why would Anyone need that many cores for gods sake?!
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/258/258664.jpg
Do you guys remember when AMD was mocked because of the "moar cores!" approach, and now Intel does the same?
