Soft or hard launch?

Wish they would skip Broawell-E like they did Broadwell-k and go strait to Skylake-E.

I'll be keeping an eye on this as I'm interested in an upgrade for my aging i7 950. Someone release a black mobo with blue heatsinks please 🤓

I doubt it, unless circumstances will force them to. Intel will go for 110% milking, since they basically have no real competition other than themselves...

If only it were a real upgrade... Which it doesn't seem to be, sadly. I hope that guru3d will review both the i7 and the i5.

I hope Skylake version of Core-M will be out before then. I want a Surface Pro 4 with Skylake Core-M in it immediately.

I only hope this wouldn't cost like 500$ the basic CPU, I really need an upgrade on my PC, I'm still with a Quad Core!

Here we go again... Intel: Question: How can we get people to throw out their €500 motherboard/€400 CPU and buy another €500 motherboard/€400 CPU from us? Answer: change number / layout of pins or otherwise make older boards incompatible. Suckers!... Seriously it appears with most computer hardware they might as well put a big sticker on the box saying "FOR SINGLE USE ONLY: YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO USE THIS IN ANY NEW SYSTEM AGAIN!"

If they do that X99 is already dead.. Skylake-E will have another X chipset and X99 won't work because its not pcie4.0.

Wow where are you getting that mb pricing from?

Earlier I posted the expected prices in your thread, if that helps?

This, because this is what I want to upgrade to, preferably before the free Windows 10 upgrade offer runs out, as I have a spare Windows 7 license around.

Here's a serious question: When was the last time any of you upgraded your CPU after three years without upgrading the rest of your system?

Honestly all the socket changes are probably for motherboard manufacturers. They have nothing going for them now in days. Nearly zero differentiation. Especially now that pretty much everything is on the processor.

Additional question of relevance: When was the last time you actually upgraded your CPU after 3 years already ? I know I haven't done so in a long time. For a long time because of lack of money, currently because my 2600k is still going strong enough. Though I finally want to move, looking at 4k and higher res.

My point exactly 🙂

Kind of expected. Now from Sandy Bridge onward?

It would be nice if we had some direct comparisons in reviews with a 2500/2600K tbh.
