Unless a miracle happens and Intel changes it's non-EU media cpu sampling, I can't wait until HH gets his hands on a the 9900k and 9700k!

Reason enough to upgrade from a Q6600?

Are you serious? The last 5 series were reason enough to upgrade from the Q6600. Dont get e wrong the Q6600 was a great chip when released but it's been outclassed both in CPU and chipset features for quite a while.

Is this the reason for the lack of the i8 generation? Have the factories already in the new generation ???? If not, we will have very inflated prices at launch.

Yeah, the last time I built a gaming rig (Q6600 + 8800GTS)...some 10 years ago

It can actually run Crysis (2007), unlike modern CPUs πŸ˜‰

Q6600 has been badly affected by the spectre/meltdown mitigation patches though. Stock clocks on it are unbearable. My Q6600 system is still in use in my Dad's PC Q6600 + X38 + DDR2 1066MHz - I had it clocked to 3GHz as a nice cool and quiet OC but now with that overclock, performance is like as if it was at stock clocks, it's pretty much essential to have over 3GHz overclock now. Also, before Spectre, at 1080p if you wanted to play Battlefield 4, you needed at least 3.4GHz on the CPU if you wanted to hit 60fps average (I could get my chip to 3.51GHz max stable).

An i7 950 was already a reason enough for me to get rid of my Q6600 OC 3.2GHz, and then upgrade with a i7 970 (6 core). Today I stay stuck with a 6950x 4.4GHz and RAM 64GB because now, there is no real reason to change yet, maybe in 2 years.

I would argue the 8600K is the perfect gaming CPU. 9700K is overkill in most cases, and will just draw more power for no real performance enhancement. If you're a streamer then might as well just get an 8700K now, rather than wait.

It depends from the games you play. The 8600K is suffering in some new games like BF1/BF5/Assassins Creed Origins etc.., with very high usages already mate so the 9700K solution will be better for mins and avgs fps too! Btw it is always better to have more physical cores rather than having less cores with more virtual ones like with HT (in the case of the 8700K). But neither of those solutions is perfect for every workload unless you buy the i9 9900K.
