I think the lake moniker has been done to death, and frankly, the move to DDR5 would have been a solid breaking point. I'm glad they're changing it up but... Core Ultra? What are they supposed to do for next gen?

Intel is reminiscent about the time when their Core 2 Duo almost burried AMD πŸ˜›

"Lake" is just an internal codename, its not used in marketing. The "public" name is just Core i9 13900K, 13th generation, etc.

β€” Bernard Fernandes (@Bernard_P): Yes, we are making brand changes as we’re at an inflection point in our client roadmap in preparation for the upcoming launch of our #MeteorLake processors. https://abload.de/img/u1dzdej.png But what kind of an inflection??

Just like Athlon almost burried Intel Pentium?

Yeah I had the Athlon 64 5000 back then, cost me almost 500usd, when AMD is ahead they charge quite good pennies for them silicons πŸ˜‰.

My dumbazz paid $200 for a Pentium D 945 Maybe I should start a thread called..."dumbest PC purchase ever"

Intel had nothing to compete with Athlon FX lineup.

Pentium D was one of the worst Intel has ever made.

I am pround to say that I never owned any Pentium 4, Pentium D or Celeron D. Those were, a rather dirty pieces of silicon.

We as an enthusiast group are not the traget audience for such things. We buy after numbers anyway. That said, give me a release date and NDA end date so I can expect benchmarks, please thank you.

I remember my Pentium D 955XE... it was really making motherboard burn with flame at insane voltage that it needed to run fast. Big OC, worse buy as nearly all board died with it until high version of P45 and a asus formula X38 that get hot like a pan but doest melt. It was good time πŸ™‚ But also at this time it was made to last: it is still alive doing internet and office in a friend's son computer, despite it's past hot life lol.

Pay more for less cost πŸ™‚ I don't know, we will see if the name fit the CPU...

Ultra what? This could make sense for the top tier parts but using it for every part?... Such stupid branding.

So now everything is Ultra. There's an Ultra watch, there will be an Ultra phone, now here come the Ultra processors. The more ultra things there are, the more pedestrian the word becomes. Thus, marketing is once again eating its tail. Oh, and it's an ultra stupid name for a processor line. It's just one bad benchmark away from people calling it pooltra.

Well, look at this from a positive angle, this also means we are ultra buyers/consumers/users!...:D Or maybe this is an inside joke from Intel, and they think we are just ultra idiots... 😱 πŸ˜•

Loosing the brand recognition isnt the smartest thing especially if the product is not that impressive. The C2D to "i" worked becouse Intel was on top of their game.
