Sunny cove - core arch Icelake's new arch.. but from the looks of it, it's yeah still more of a upgrade, then completely new arch since nehalem. They promise improved IPC, not single digits like now since what Broadwell/skylake and beyond. Saw this interesting anadtech quote over at techpowerup https://www.techpowerup.com/250571/intel-unveils-a-clean-slate-cpu-core-architecture-codenamed-sunny-cove
As stated above, these are just the microarchitecture names. The actual chips these cores are in will likely have different names, which means a Lake name for the Core microarchitecture. At the event, Intel stated that Ice Lake would have Sunny Cove cores in it, for example.
And this is what I meant few times when I said icelake will finally be that next, next-gen CPU, no more Sandybridge / nehalem roots. Still better then nothing, but imo all this boom now has to do with zen2 knocking at the door and intel saying: look we have a new arch ready, wait for us. Hah 😀

How many Kidneys do Intel think we have? increased IPC significantly and more cores, probably means price will increase significantly too.

It's a new architecture, things change. At the same time with the release of these CPUs, Intel's new funding program for consumers will also start to accept livers, lungs, and retinas, in addition to kidneys, to partially help with the purchase of a new CPU.

Depending on how Intel interprets the future of HT, and, "gluing" dies together, I'm sure pricing might actually be a bit competitive for the supposed performance. The "Core i" series has had a very long run and I'm sure Intel must have found a pretty drastic way to spice things up a bit after all this time. So, although I sorta hope this fresh new architecture will be a flop, I have a feeling it's going to make Zen look as slow as Bulldozer. Intel has practically infinite resources (in regards to engineering, obviously not so much in chip production) so they can pull off something none of their competitors, x86 or otherwise, could.

Just ex AMD workers doing their magic since INTEL hired them almost a year ago and also Jim Keller. Yes I understand Jim Keller gets contracts from many tech companies then leaves.

What exactly shown here indicates that? All the improvements listed are obvious iterations of their current architecture.

Will there be "Candle Cove" too?

when competitor have a product that similar/as-good or better ? only IF the cpu indeed far better ... if not increasing price = keep ur product urself on ur warehouse

I think what amd is doing next round is going to force intel and nvidia to rethink prices ... If the adoredtv leaks hold true. I'm still rocking a sandy and a gtx 960 and with a price war looming it's FINALLY time to upgrade

$250 Motherboard and $550 CPU (without HT), no thank you. AMD here we come after 10 years of Intel!

Idle power mode will carry that name 😀

2019 shapes up to be a great year for a new hardware.

yes, and cooler is optional, but it will come with a small metal box that can be mounted onto the HS, and allows for fresh-xmas-tree smell incense to be heated..

I meant this. Raja looks good in an INTEL sweater.
He is not related to Sunny Cove. It's been made before him. And he is not working on CPU. And he is largely a manager.

Intel 10nm in 2019 and its spectre and meltdown compatible. Or maybe they release 10nm ----- new gen CPU's.

No but they will do "Trolly mountain".

too easy to do snark. imho, the year long slam by stock analysts (re: wrongfootedness) is finally having an effect on the complacency... and as TJ said, it may have a bit to do with AMD (CES in 3 weeks).

Maybe il swap out my 8700k for one of these when the time comes, as long as the performance has a big enough increase that is

if its built for performance and deliver's like the way sandybridge did back then maybe they should make this the new revamp dump the sunny cove title and call it "SANDY COVE". Sandybridge just had a baby with a ZEN and gave us the chip we all need! "intel @ gods work" LOLZ
