Intel gets my money for their Atom based tablets because there are no AMD based tablets. However, I am happy with my FX 8320 and 8350 so I will wait for Zen to come out and see what it is like. (Sorry Intel but, you have enough money, you clearly do not need mine.)

I am holding out for AMD x86 tablet for 2 years, or maybe more. This year looks hopeful, and maybe I'll find spot on desk for convertible/netbook too but I want full HSA 1.0 for bigger device. I am overdue for GPU, so 390x it shall be. And freesync screen should follow. But man, AMD tends to deliver so late. From leaked benches A10-8700p has same CPU performance as FX-8800p while having 512 instead of 384 SP in GPU. I hope those tests were at limited ES by clock or TDP and final FX-8800p will have some extra CPU power.

The rumor is that zen is going to be more like the phemon 2's, with AMD saying "the core is back". Which would be nice as those were great CPU's I switched to AMD just for those, Ive only stuck with them for the whole bang for my buck reasons. I am looking forward to zen, hopefully this will put them back in the performance race with intel. Otherwise good chance I will switch back and just use AMD's GPU's from now on.

I have seen that "leaked"/fake slide about zen which stated those huge numbers for everything, like: 64 PCIe lanes, up to 16GB HBM + quad channel DDR4, ... And it stated double amount of threads versus cores, so it still looks like CMT, but I think they'll move it closer to SMT but not entirely. While specs were crazy demanding on transistor count and making it nearly impossible to make, if it was fake they would state 1:1 threads vs cores, so I think I was not fake. Edit: And I do not need new CPU, as Zen comes I still may be at upper edge of fps and application performance required.

I take alot of those slides with a large grain of salt. Its just to soon to see legitimate slides IMHO.

I hope AMD can bring something nice to the table in the high end market.

I do agree that they tend to deliver late. I recall, not specifically what, but they had shown tablet apu's that ran really well and might have had good battery life. Ok, so they displayed a working tablet with an AMD apu, now why can't I purchase one then?

I bought an 8350 three years ago and never looked back, it is the most future proof investment I've ever made. Now that DX12 is coming along expensive cpus will be less and less important to gamers, to the point that until my 8350 dies I'll probably only upgrade my gpu every few years. Good luck Intel, DX12 is going to destroy your high-end sales.

My FX 8350 is a great, long term investment. Yes, DX12 will make it even better. However, the high end Intel CPU's are in no real danger because people do more than gaming on them. The 5960X will blow away our FX 8350 for certain tasks and in the professional business, time is money. However, Intel will keep losing money at least short term because they are a victim of their own success. Even their 4 year old 2600K is something that does not need to be upgraded from.

And by "losing money" I assume you mean "Two quarters of profit for Intel is a year of AMD revenue" or "Even their 4 year old 2600k is something that AMD still doesn't have an answer for."

No, I mean losing money based upon this thread topic. :3eyes: Sounds like I hit a nerve? Their incoming income level went down year over year. Also, I can build a fast 8 core, 32GB machine with 2 x 24 inch monitors, gaming keyboard and mouse for $1200. Can I do that with Intel? (Priced out a build to use with Ubuntu Linux since I am not going to wipe my work and home builds for that.)

You can't purchase a tablet with an AMD processor because nobody is selling one in your country. Supposedly there are AMD based tablets available. I just don't know where they're being sold at.

Intel is losing money in the mobile market.....

No, their revenues were flat, not down. Client revenue was down, as it has been for years, at any company who makes anything for desktops. PCs don't sell anymore. Intel has been steadily moving toward power consumption as a priority for 5 years now because people aren't interested in desktops as much anymore. The rest of your comment is out of left field levels of irrelevant. I particularly enjoyed the part where you specified 8 cores because you know Intel doesn't even need them to beat whatever fantasy machine you just made up. Add in the gaming keyboard, mouse, and monitors to muddy the waters even further and ensure that we literally never ever get back to the original topic.

Read the comment I replied to and tell me where it talks about mobile. Guy talked about desktop parts and how intel doesn't need upgrades etc etc, so why do you inject yourself into this post to say Intel is losing money in mobile when so what? What did I say about mobile? What did he say about mobile? Nothing

I really did hit a nerve. 😀 PCHound.com if you think that is a fantasy build. (Yes, quad core intel will not be enough for a Linux build and running virtualized machines inside of it.) The whole point and only point I was making is that for the money, I will stick with AMD since they will do what I need quickly without breaking the bank. The 5960X is great and so is the 5820K but, I would not get anywhere near a good return on investment in them for my usage scenario's. My whole point also was that Intel has been a victim of their own successes and you did not even comment on that but the part where they lost money year over year because of that success.

Yes, I did. I said they've been focusing on power consumption for about 5 years as they transition to primarily low-power since the desktop is essentially dead. Nothing outperforms Intel's options and anyone who needs performance is still buying an i7, so they focus on bringing down power to get to the market they need to get to.

Oops, must have missed that, sorry. 😀

Since C2D intel was the best and probably always be the best, honestly Sandy Bridge cpus were so awesome, that all other next gen had nothing special to offer. Intel vs Intel basically.
