Wow. This CPU starts to throttle at 100°C... that's a lot more than I want my components to run at tbh. Btw, 81°C on an AIO...

Thanks for the reviews. The 14600K hitting 6000Mhz is nice.

Seems like one of those wastes of sand, but I guess it has some uses.

Thank you for the very detailed review , as always good job @Hilbert Hagedoorn . Great to see how Intel and amd 3d chips are so close in performance at gaming , competition it's a good thing for us. This is the last hooray for lga 1700 and a good one at it 😀. I have an incoming 14900k cpu for that last upgrade of my lga 1700 mobo since arrow lake it's 1+ year away for desktop there wont be anything else from intel until then.

Thanks for noting that auto enhancements are turned off. Probably the best way to run it.

After reading this I see no reason not to pick the 7800X3D which is cheaper, cooler and on a platform that will be supported for a least two more years. But if money is no issue, someone has a 1600W PSU and a generally cool room then sure, the 14900K is a beast. Still one must admit that the 14900K release is quite boring due to the miniscule differences vs the 13900K 😛 The 13700K is probably a more interesting choice for Intel fans on a budget.

Another great review and a reason why i love this site. as far as this cpu most have already said the most important things- heat, power, and price. I’m in agreement with all of that, but I’m very happy with the progress Intel is making on the technical aspects of node and mcm implementation. for me it means that the next generation will be truly remarkable and finally will have a lower tdp in line with the competition.

The 14900k is a much more capable allrounder then the 7800X3D, more like the 7950X3D. A 14600k would be a better comparison against a 7800X3D if gamming is the only usage and here the 14600k holds up nicely for a much better price then the 14900k.

Join us as we review, analyse and test the Intel 14th Gen core processor, specifically the Raptor Lake-based Core i9 14900K, which has been officially released. Prior to this, there were numerous leaks and performance reviews surrounding the series. The latest model represents the advanced progression of the series. Read the article here
Thank you H for still using the 5950x and similar hardware spec, as me spending almost 2000 dollar's on a GPU 4090 , 4K gaming on my system , set for a few more years .

That multiload power consumption on the heels of a Threadripper...damn.
data/avatar/default/avatar37.webp
I don't understand how can this piece of s*ht can get gold, the power consumption is of the roof and the performance is only slightly better than AMD products, this is clearly a fail of epical proportions and not gold product

This is probably the least impressive Intel release ever, except perhaps Prescott. I expect the result will be the same as with Prescott, lots more people choosing AMD for their next PC.

Having a generation thats even more underwhelming than 11gen is an achievement by itself. 😀

Ah yes, forgot about that shocker! 2 of Intel's worst ever releases, 11th and 14th gen coming less than 3 years apart. Not a good trend....

Man this, makes my 5800x3d purchase look even better and its not in the charts. All them threads, mhz, and still barely on top.

I’ve been itching to upgrade my i9 10900K for some time now and this is basically the review I was waiting for before pulling the trigger, I’ll be going with the 7800X3D, seems like great value and performance.

We truly live in the age of stagnation.
data/avatar/default/avatar32.webp
The 14900K/KF is really meant for mixed workloads that include heavy processing, ie encoding. If someone is using their PC for gaming and only gaming, then a 7800X3D would definitely be their best option, or one of the i7s if they want to stay on Intel. As for 14th gen being unspectacular, Intel is one node behind AMD. If their Intel 4 node was ready, then 14th gen would be using the Meteor Lake cores, which actually have significant IPC and power efficiency improvements.

I'm anxious to see how my Deep Cool Assassin IV handles the 14900KF. It handles my 13900KF exceptionally well for an air cooler with no downclocking during gaming workloads, and minor 100hz drops on individual cores during heavy, prolonged workloads (especially AVX2). But the 14900K apparently has some thermal improvements (packaging perhaps?), at least according to HardwareCanucks. I doubt binning could explain such a large delta in temps between the 13900K and 14900K. Whatever the reason, I plan on undervolting like I always do: [youtube=D8qEzL8MM50]

While I definitely agree with you on one hand you gotta admit... Fastest gaming processor in the world comes with bragging rights regardless of power consumption. If you can afford this processor you can afford to feed it power.
