Finally some info starts to surface. The question is whether the plan still remains:
Broadwell-E Q1-2016 (X99)
Skylake-E Q3-2016 (new chipset?)

Looks like 6800K is the new 5820k, going to be popular.

Curious about the pricing and overclockability though. Might be a viable upgrade to the X99 chipset owners down the road.

Sounds like Guru3D needs to update the GPU testing rig. I mean, 10 i7 hyperthreaded cores sounds like the CPU bottleneck effect can be removed tolerably for a few years.
Seriously, though, this demonstrates why we need AMD to succeed with the Zen architecture. Intel can easily pack 10 cores in a chip, yet they have been offering only 4 for the largest (serious) audience for almost a decade now because the competition is miserable. You'd think they would have moved up to 6 a few years ago, but no. People have to carry them money on a silver platter whether they want or not, so it's all the same to offer the same old stuff under a new name, with a few gimmicks added every now and then to satisfy hypocrites. Naturally the used the immense profits to develop smaller process nodes, which further expands the profits.

By the time Zen will be around, Intel will release more than 4 cores on the mainstream platform. So this problem won't be a problem, similar to what Nvidia does each time AMD takes the performance crown... temporarly. And then it's the same story all over again, because eventually we'll complain why it's not 8 cores on the mainstream platform / chipset / socket instead of 6. Just what I expect though, imho.

These all sound great, I might go for the 8 core or even 10 core if I will think it's worth it.

I guess too, with dx12 coming around we will see how many threads / cores are really supported by it. Then more cores / threads could be a serious sales argument of those CPUs even to gamers.

It seems my next processor will be 8 or 10 core one.

I'd be surprised to see a 10 core varient. I think it'll be the same lineup as we already have with Haswell E, 6/12 6/12 8/16 lineup.

Really low clock frequency. Sad

Would never go less than 6 cores again, these look interesting

BLEH!
Affordable 8-core would be a nice upgrade from my current rig.

10 cores & 20 threads are ok. But how much is the fish? 🙂
In DTP or home CAD will be ok,but in gaming not.Because devs are too lazy to develop something to access 6-8+ cores.
Undying

Intel just get these out so you can start preparing Skylake-E. Although I can hardly believe I'll be seriously needing to upgrade my cpu/mobo but I really like the new goodies on new mainboards that am lacking

Oh blimey... Just when you build a brand new X99/5820K@4.5GHz rig, this comes out... 😀
I think I will hold on to my rig for a few years, unless something really, really tempting comes along.. Which tbh imo, it will take a while since all the bells and whistles are available in the X99/Z170 platforms(GEN3, USB3/3.1, DDR4, M.2, NVME etc).
Or I could sell my main 5820k rig and use my backup 3770k rig until Skylake-E. Decisions! :P

Eh... If the base model is priced to compete with 5820k, the higher clocked hexacore priced like 5930k... Where the **** is the 8-core going to go in terms of pricing ?
