Nice price, had a feeling it would be around £1000.

Intel is so generous.

So that's nearly a decade of €1k top CPUs from Intel, since the Pentium IV Extreme Edition...

In NZ they'll be listed at ~$1500, to me this seems more than fair. /sarcasm off.

You can complain now, but AMD's top Athlon 64 FX was doing €900 when Intel came up with their EE.

Just wait for the refresh, then pick this up for half price.

Yeah but hardware in general was way more expensive back then, it's dropped considerably over the years.

True, although what about the 5930X ? If you need a six core CPU (With HT) then wouldn't that already be around half the price of this one and the only loss is a small bit of cache memory and a minor bump in clock speed which you can overclock yourself, so performance should be near identical. 🙂 (I'm in no hurry to upgrade though, maybe for the X100 series or what it will be called I might consider it.)

Hmm so 1000€ for processor, 400 for motherboard, 370 for memories... oh fun :|

Too pricey for a gamer anyway. But yes, the middle one, I'm looking forward to reviews of it, just to know the stats. I just hope it's got the same 40 PCIe lanes

Yeah for gaming if it's like the previous models then the 5770 is probably ideal for a more high-end setup, fast and quad core and it should be possible to overclock it further too if required. 🙂

It's the Enthusiast platform after all... you can also go for a CPU for 550, 220 for the mainboard, and 100 for ram, summing up for less than 900€. But there's always been a bigger price tag on those platforms and new components like DDR4.

So about £880. And a higher turbo than we thought.

Well the 5930 should be the sweetspot, just 6 vs 8cores .. ( not that it should do any difference for gaming, for benchmarking and softwares who can use it thats another thing ). Now we need review for see what the performance difference is with a 4960-4930K 6cores .. Well to know that some instruction had been disabled on the Haswell-E due to a bug. ( TSX features ) .. Not that this is important for now, but well, its maybe better to wait the next revision.

I hope futuremark is on the ball and has 3d vantage ready for 8 cores.

Need to check, but i think remember some result with dual Xeon processors and many cores...

You'd think load-balancing had settled by now.

Talking about CPU history: if we go back to 1997 when Pentium II "Klamath" processor got released to the market, the top model was sold at the starting price of 1981$! At that time, building a powerful PC was a really expensive task!

Nice...Excited to see how's the performance vs an Ivy-E..
