another great detailed review. tbh, this is the most compelling model of the 14th gen although it's priced roughly $80 more than the direct competition and uses almost twice as much power. imo what's really compelling are the Z790 mobos as they're fantastic. in order to be competitive on AM5 one would have to bump up to the "E" series X670 and B650 boards and that price increase would more than eat up the $80 differential between cpus. that said, if one is building an elaborate system i would go for an Arrow Lake build for many reasons (incl. newer chipsets/mobos). but if your cpu is on it's last legs and you like Intel it's very hard to go wrong with this.

Waste of sand this generation.

how does it perform when you lock or undervolt the cpu?

intresting, still say TDP is getting out control, If icant comfortable use with Air cooling , there is problem then again I would disable PL2 and problem limit TDP on cpu now

Bet its only about 15+ fps faster then my 5800x3d. Which is astonishing really........ Unless you dont want to go AM5, dont have a 5800x3d and arent on 11th gen older. No reason to touch this Intel gen.

Great CPU but the price and power usage are real letdowns. Great review!

And this is a problem on this gen and even more on the i7 as it should be the "best buy" CPU, same going from 5800X3D to AM5 without X3D, the gain doesn't worth the money spended.

The e cores aren't called energy cores by the way lol.

Exactly why I didnt go AM5 when it launched, 3d available at the time. Honestly I am just gonna get a new gpu. Then maybe in 2025 upgrade to a AM5 X3D refresh or new gen X3D chip. I prolly will never not buy a X3D chip for my gaming rig at this point. The fact I can get a 5600x3d, have 95% of the 5800x3d performance on my mini rig that has a 2600x, and b450 itx board for $175 is mind blowing. Even if I throttled the 5600x3d to 4ghz all core with -30PBO it will outright destroy the 2600x.

is there gona be review on 14700 (non K) I know i can just get K versions and limit PL1 and PL2 and get same chip? And probably makes sense seen both chips for some reason cost same at lest they are at microcenter. but I would like to actual perf on cpu and i not see and reviews what so ever for the non k version

14700K, 14700KF, 14700... all of them are within margin of error. Reviewers aren't going to waste time with every tiny different SKU for every product, it's not feasible to do. You can check 14700K reviews and extrapolate yourself how 14700 will perform (spoiler alert nearly identical at stock settings).

As written above, but no .. Intel does not seed them for review. In fact intel's review sampling is always very thin, usually the two most prominent processors. Our 14700K we borrowed.

so basic 14700k lock to non k pl1/pl2 are basicly the same chip, is there guess to much would be lose between the 2?
