Solder TIM Thank you Intel

Those games demos were kinda pointless. No frame rates shown and those games I don't think are CPU bound

$488 for the "world's first 8c/16t mainstream processor", LoL. It's like they're pretending that the 1800X doesn't exist and that a near $500 price tag is "mainstream". The galls... At least they're going back to solder for their X-series refresh and making all lanes available; a small but welcome change. Pricing is still atrocious though. Their new 28-core unlocked Xeon seems to be limited to 44 CPU lanes (I thought it'd be more than the X-series). It's also not 5 GHz like Intel promised back at CES (Intel lied - shock!).

I'm copy-pasting my comment on the pre-order topic because that picture you used as illustration basically says the same : BEST GAMING PROCESSOR intel knows what it is selling, forum users don't seem to you guys all seem heavily involved into servers, work computers and stuff my quote : these are gamer's CPU and you are talking about HT, cores or Ryzen threadripper you clearly are not the target what does the 9900k offer ? 5Ghz stock clock speed for 1-2 cores stock as in no overclocking, no memory compatibility problems, no problems at all you just install boot and it works the only thing that matters for 99% of the games especially the older or non-AAA ones also even the new ones google : forza horizon cpu core problem the game basically use only one core Turn10 says it's on purpose >< which proves my point really as a gamer you want 1-4 cores with high speed and the rest does not matter and this is what those cpus bring, sli being pretty much dead we don't care about cpu lanes as much (I had SLI on 580-680-780-980-1080 so I know a "little" about it and dropped it in favor of a single 1080ti, my target being 120fps in 1080p)

and even for the 9600K, which surprised me. -andy-

Other website already posted some photos including slides from conference. Most if not all Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities are fixed by Microcode + Software, meaning "software" mitigation. Performance penalty at those prices. Da faq.

So let me Sum up the Announcement: Intel took all the existing SKU's, Replaced the toothpaste with proper Solder and showed it like "new Tech" that improves thermals/clocks etc', thanks to Soldered CPU's they raised the TDP and overclocked the CPU's - And now we got "new" CPU's and core i9- OMG it's sad day... And the New 28 core "Beast" - same old Xeon with unlocked multi and crazy TDP - OMG- ROFL! well done Intel Marketing Department ! P.S- did any one count the number of time's they used "All New" in the presentations? we all know that it all same with n ew name-lol.

I'd say since it is $500, it is going to be a minimum of €500. Then it depends on the VAT. I guess something between €500 - €550.

To add on what @MaCk0y says, $488 converted to Euros at currant rates as of today = about €425 so then we add VAT on top of that, lets say, 20% VAT we're looking at €510 minimum - there will undoubtedly have import/export fees added as well as retail overheads so probably looking at €550.

In UK tonight all shops have it at £600 ( $784) Imho you shouldn't be expecting anything less than €550 in the rest of the EU.

So the i9-7900x was a 10 core 20 thread processor with quad channel memory, and now the i9-9900k is an 8 core 16 thread processor with dual channel memory? What, are they going to create a 9900x as well and confuse their naming even more? Sure is a roller coaster over at intel. Edit: nvm, i see there is already (or rumored) 9820x and 9900x, both higher end then the 9900k, which is really...really confusing when it comes to the 9820x.....

The end result here is going to be around a 10fps gain at 1440p (and even less at 4k), which most people who are willing to spend $500 on a CPU are running at. Even with the 2080Ti, games are still mostly GPU bound at any resolution above 1080p, and your average gamer with a 1070 or 1080 will be GPU bound at 1080 as well. So the question is, do you think the price $150 difference between a 2700x and a 9900k is worth it for that extra 10-12 fps? People with a lot of money to burn will say yes, because they always say yes. Everyone else will be getting a 2700x or one of those other people's used 8700k chips and be perfectly content.

Don't forget that the 7900x had more PCIe lanes as well. These are still limited to 16 lanes like all previous consumer chips. They only called this a core i9 to justify the big price hike. It's a Core i7 in everything but name and price, and the 9700k is a Core i5.

well, this will be a hit for gamers i suppose... expensive stuff to play games at top FPS these days (probably always has been like this)

Like others have already said the price of the 9900K is insane!!! 500€ for a mainstream CPU is just too much!!! The other parts should also be a little cheaper but they are somehow acceptable.

I wish the 9900k was 500 Euros, here it's a low low price of 599.99 POUNDS, which atm is 683 euros... Yeah i wish it was 500 euros here XD PC parts are just getting a bit intense, RAM, CPU, GPU prices have sky rocketed in the past few years, think only a few parts have actually stayed down...

As far as I'm concerned, the 9900K is a HEDT product. I'm still waiting for Intel to release a mainstream 8c/16t processor.

I bet this will be another paper launch just like the 8000 series were especially with the 14nm production problems that Intel are currently experiencing. Expecting much higher MSRP prices until actual availability in February. Hope I am wrong.

i9 9900K and RTX 2080 Ti is an excellent combo for the discerning customer who is not in the habit of bargaining, counting coins, or engaging in any other lowbrow activities.
