Why is the core i7 more expencive than the core i5 with less physical cores and less cashe?

Mobile vs non-mobile, the i5's are desktop CPU's the DU i5/i7's are mobile CPU's.

It's such a shame the mobile cpu's cost the double.

Yeep, Core M3-6Y30 is a 5w, 100mm2 processor that costs $281.00 each. There is literally nothing that competes with it. Intel's X86 locks Windows to Intel and AMD. AMD won't have anything near 5w that's competitive until their 14nm Basilisk stuff comes out, which is now slated for Q4 2016. By that time Intel will have 10nm stuff in the pipeline for mid 2017. Zen literally has to be the greatest architecture or AMD is gone.

Sucks how they keep advertising them as "i7" when they're clearly 2/4 core/threads, sure they're the power saving ones but they're pretty much like i5 mobiles with higher clocks/cache, and yeah I know there are i5s with 4/4 core/threads out there as well but now its just selling point when people hear or see "i7" they already think its the best and nothing else. (when noobs go.. will it play games? "does it have an i7?" yeah.. "yeah then it can play games") lol yes I hear that all the time xD Granted in desktop world there are i7 4/8, 6/12, 8/16, and 10/20... Wish laptops stay at: i7 = 4/8 i5 = 4/4 (okay 2/4) i3 = 2/4 Celeron/Pentium 2/2 etc... Edit: Ah forgot each wattage has their own category (45W, 28W, 15W) of i7/i5/i3s :P

The price is a little bit hight for a 2 cores 4 threads CPUs***65292;even it has a skylake framework. BTW***65292;wonder how the 'ZEN' core CPU going, now the intel has it's own skylake CPU series, if the ZEN core CPUs don't have a remarkbale performance***65292;it will be completely no competitiveness for AMD‘s CPUs

I think Intel should just cut the c#$8 on their branding and naming. It just gets more confusing with every generation. Here is my suggestion: i3 ---> for 2 cores (2 or 4 threads) ------ medium performance desktop i5 ---> for 4 cores (4 or 8 threads) -----------high performance desktop i7 ---> for 6 cores (6 or 12 threads) ---------extra performance desktop Xeon->for more than 6 cores and threads ---ultra performance desktop add a suffix for hyper threaded or non hyper threaded after the model... eg: Core i5 6600K becomes Core i5 K660 Core i7 6700K becomes Core i5 HK670 Core i7 5930K becomes Core i7 HK593 and replace "i" for "m" or whatever for mobile
