It's pretty funny they put in a new socket but no PCIe 4.0.

Wonder if the next nVidia GPU's will have pci-e 4.0? If yes, what will be the performance benefit over 3.0 on the new high end gpu's.
Likely there is not so much benefit in performance yet, and most likely there will be more performance benefit choosing Intel cpu for gaming instead of AMD cpu with pci-e 4.0 for gaming.
Time will tell.

nizzen, it's all about nvme storage speed, gpu talk is pointless for now

Damn, if my Z390 could support i7 10700 I would be getting it. But anyway, got cheap new 9700K ( 320€ ).

I currently own a Z390 taichi ultimate and 9900k
1080ti running in 8x only because that's all the system can afford (need 16x to play 4k apparently so I'm good for now...)
I already had to remove the TB3 card because I ran out of lanes
I can't use 2/3 nvme slots because I would be left with 1-2 sata ports (1nvme = -2 sata ports)
at one time when I had to juggle between lots of external drives I had windows pop-up a message "too many usb devices connected"
they sell motherboards with 3/4 of the slots you can't populate because of the low lanes
absolutely no way I'm buying another 16 cpu lanes system it's obsolete technology (for mid-full tower desktops I mean)
storage and transfer bandwith has exploded in recent years and Intel wants to stay with 5-10y old tech ? it's suicide, count me out
HEDT is the new norm, Intel leaked line-up should be called LEDT
edit : my G.Skill 3600 is compatible with most Ryzen 3k motherboards..just saying...Intel 😛

The new line up seems interesting but the big question is the pricing... Also, is this a new architecture or just the current one with more cores?

The Z170 was a good platform but its becoming alittle too long in the tooth.

AMD is about to launch a 16-core which will most likely work just fine on a 2 year old mobo (assuming it has good quality VRM), and has high-bandwidth I/O (PCI-e 4.0, USB 3.2 Gen 2 integrated, extra lanes for NVMe)
Intel is preparing a 10-core which needs a complete new socket, while not offering ANYTHING new other than a tiny bump in number of cores...
They are out of their minds, completely lost it.

What is the difference between a current i9900k core and a comet lake one?
What is reason to have z390 supporting a 8 core today, but just a 6 core comet lake later? if it can run the 9900ks can run also the next 8 core part i presume.
i would expect more performances on the same watts or less watts and similar performances.
