This is highly overpriced. I bought the Rev 1 Vive on release for around the same price which included base stations and controllers and was arguably more ground breaking than this headset which seems like a small upgrade.
I won't be upgrading at this price and will start looking at alternatives to HTC in the future.
They should have made it a lot cheaper to upgrade and they could have insured more people will continue using Vive and increase their VR market share.

Was looking forward to this but i agree its too expensive, will either wait for some price cuts/bundles ,preferably with stations/controllers.
Either that or wait longer for oculus to release something new, which im sure will be less expensive.

looking at the price of this, and the 299 for a (ps4) vr hmd, even that it runs lower res,
will be enough for me, considering price difference.
i prefer image quality, but not for a 500$ difference.

$799 is not 850 Euro, it should be something like 640 Euro..

I'm going to hold off on getting another VR headset until:
* The screen door effect is either minimal or eliminated (I figure one 4K display per eye ought to be sufficient for that).
* Improvements toward motion sickness.
* Better Linux support. This isn't a "must have" for me, but it's a little annoying how there's not even a good up-to-date video player.

Been more appropriate to release on Halloween with that scary price.

Emmm I don't get how motion sickness can be prevented from the hardware side, that's pure software related (not to confuse with headaches from incorrect eye position calibration).
Btw, what is preventing Samsung from creating a hmd using curved led screens without lenses???

I'm sticking with my CV1 at least till they go wireless, higher resolution is nice and all but still tethered to a cable is major drawback to me, even with proper cable management I still get tangled now and then especially standing up using the Touch controllers and that price needs to come down,
serious ripoff right now but you can say that about most hardware these days.

Oh wow that's just for the HMD. I thought it was weird they didn't mention the new controllers, hadn't considered they would sell it at that price without them.

It’s expesive sure, but also not really. This is the new top spec headset for vr. Not to mention having two high refresh rate screens . Plus high end headphones. The R&D that goes into this and then cost of material justifys the cost. And just like the old vive this one will also drop in price overtime and even more when the new vive after this one comes out.
And for those asking for wireless, I wouldn’t hold my breath. Our technology isn’t fully there for that yet specially at such a high resolution and two screens at once given that. Not to mention th battery unlesss you want to wear a backpack sort of thing.

because almost all states have different tax, some even none (on certain things).
why would you list a tax, when there would be a difference between 0 to almost 80$?
