Anyone noticed the same for Nvidia cards ? that's the reason I didn't go for a 970, because in USA I could get one for 350, here it was more like 380 euros or more ...
So I ended up getting a second hand r9 290x windforce for 250 swiss bucks and I'm quite happy about it !

I got my cards for ~370 euros, it was still worth it imo.
However when looking at X99 mobos, DDR4 memory and of course the 5xxx CPUs line, I can only dream of building a rig with that. Prices are way, way, waaaay too high for the perfomance offered.

Price on an i7 4790k in Finland is 349 euro = 434.08 US Dollar

We always get screwed by the conversion here in the Portugalands. If a product on american sites is going on average for 400 dollars i bet my ass it´ll cost at least 400€ where i live. Remember the ps4 price reveal? They don´t even try anymore.

I agree, i wanted to upgrade my motherboard and CPU to i7 5k series, but they are way too expensive for their performance, both CPU and MoBo, then the DDR would come into place too making it insane if we compare to performance gains over 4.6-4.9k series CPUs.
Guess i'll wait for new socket and hopeful they aren't as expensive.

Same goes for Nvidia, somehow their price reduction never comes to Europe. 4690k + GTX970 combo will cost you 600€. Isnt that ridiculous.

It's become fairly common to pay 350$ in the US and 350€ here, although the stuff is shipped around the planet from China anyway.
The other question is, can't one afford those extra 20€ for a fine new rig? If you can hold off and postpone an update because of 20€, you could do it anyway and wait for the next platform/revision/socket, just like elite said.

I think it is more of an principle. If people are aware that new product should cost same or even less than previous generation, then they do not want to pay more.
I am not happy that thing which should cost me 10% less than previous version will cost me 10% more, that's 20% difference and on final price like $3500 USD it kind of hurts.

No matter what happens, EU will always have its prices set so that its not cheaper to pay the delivery all the way from US. Secondly there is the mysterious price points and it doesn't again matter from whats the product actually made from.

400 - First pro level, sweetspot in my opinion
500-700 - Enthusiastic, asks a bit premium fee already

Exactly... PC hardware is much more expensive in the EU. And there are also some differences between different EU countries, probably caused by different VAT. And, it is even harder for new EU members to get hardware - as they earn less.
That is why I was trying to win a GTX card here recently, I had no luck, but some people say that if you have no luck in gambling then you will have more luck in love 🙂 I hope it works, otherwise I start gambling again 🙂

Nvidia doesn't seem to be getting much cheaper in the US. I was looking to upgrade my GPU recently and I was keen on getting a 780, 780Ti, or 970. But after I realized those cost as much as $200-$350 more than the R9 290 I had my eye on (and didn't include 4 free games), the choice seemed pretty obvious. I understand nvidia is better as a whole but they're not THAT much better.

well I cant complain it seems, I can buy anything from US and get it shipped here for less than 50$ if it doesn't weight a ton, so I end up settling for local cases and even PSU's

Microcenter has i74790k for 250$+8% tax.If someone outside US were to buy this and pay 50 $ for shipping it is still cheaper than 300 euros+24 vat.

At the time when I bought the parts for my rig I had to make a decision between a 4gb 770 an r9 290. I ended up going for the r9 290 because it was a 2nd tier AMD card vs a 3rd tier Nvidia card and for roughly the same price at the time I got more GPU power
Prices go down eventually I mean look at the AMD cards they came down in price substantially.
Another reason for Intel parts being expensive is no competition.

Don't forget - reviews of AMD GPUs are largely based on the stock cooler, which was so bad the GPUs had to down-throttle. On top of that, AMD/ATI is notorious for having crappy first-day-release drivers, but gradually improve pretty significantly (although, so do nvidia's). AMD's prices also drop sooner and by a greater % than nvidia. Buying one of their GPUs several months after release date is usually a good/better move than getting them at release date.
