Yikes..not me. DP is horrible when you have multiple monitors because of the hotplug detect "feature". DP needs to go away. Long live HDMI.

HDMI 2.1 is useful for 4K already if you want full HDR at 60Hz or higher without compromising on color or bitdepth. Nevermind 4K120.

does that mean certain places are gona start sell hdmi cables for more.... looking at you monster cables... isnt 2.0 already uncompressed and full bitdepth at 1080p 60fps? which what I still play and will be playing at for some time still.

why cant they just fold HDMI into USB-C ports, it already does 40gbps thanks to thunderbolt, and there's vesa talking of DP1.5 doing 64gbps, we need less cables and ports not more

While I do find the hotplug thing to be a flaw that needs to be adressed, how does it annoy you in your usage? If it's because of the shifting icons on the desktop when turning off monitors, third party tools like Fences can fix it by remembering your icon positions. I'm not excusing the issue, just mentioning this in case you're looking for a way to fix this annoyance 🙂
Edit: Some monitors also have a "DDC/CI" setting that when disabled stops this behaviour. Sadly not all DP monitors seem to have it

Sadly I don't have a setting in my monitor to stop the behavior. And yes I've tried all the 3rd party tools, including fences and nothing works to my satisfaction. I found a tool that remembers icon placement but you still have to restore it every time, and then the open windows still shift and resize. I have tons of files on my desktop and I like to leave things open and expect I everything to be where I left them. I simply cannot get used to things shifting around. So much so that I wont use DP except on my gaming PC where that stuff doesn't matter. I use HDMI and DVI to DP adapters to get around this on my other systems. Hotplug detect is a travesty. But I do understand the thinking behind it, but you should be able to disable the behavior on some way.

If the icons is the biggest issue just use DesktopOK_x64 , just save how you want it, and it will restore everytime you just click restore. This would save you a lot of time, I just save it one time just to make sure I randomly clicking right click and Sort by accident

movies/shows arent shot in 120, so no need even for 4K, as the tvs dont do it either.
as monis can use other connections, not really needed there either.

I'm not using multi-monitors, but I've been using "DesktopOK" for awhile now--and quite unlike RTX--"It just works"....! Nice little utility! Sometimes my desktop icons look like a Chinese Checker board, trebled! It's very, very handy for those times when Windows "forgets" the desktop layout due to problems with the icon cache--100% reliable, I've found and always works. Nice for slobs like me who put a lot of shortcuts on their desktops! The name is somewhat corny, but the app works perfectly.

I also use the free DesktopOK, really cool app that keeps a (deletable) history of desktop positions I have saved.
Great for when I screw up as well as when Windows plays chess with my icons.

There are some HDMI 2.1 features in recent receivers.
My Denon X4400H was retro updated to include:
* eARC (enhanced audio return channel) so you can feed a video/audio signal direct to the TV over HDMI and all channels/codecs can be forwarded to the receiver via another HDMI port in the TV.
* ALLM (auto low latency mode) to make display lag tiny. So tiny I cant tell the difference compared with not using my receiver but twitch shooters might prefer to use eARC.
However UHD 120Hz it cannot do.
You will also want a gfx card with HDMI 2.1. Perhaps some are already capable but support hasnt been enabled yet due to the standard not being fully ratified until very recently, and not enough devices to test it with.

So, you bought a 4k HDR TV that can do 60Hz, but to enable HDR and 4k 60Hz you have to drop colours, cmon, what type of HDR is that when colours are lost? Or would you rather buy a 4k TV and run it at 1080p for 4:4:4 60Hz with HDR, or better yet would you rather run it at 30Hz for 4k 4:4:4 and HDR. The idea being, to do them all at the same time, you need more than 18Gbps, which only HDMI 2.1 can offer in TVs.
Funny enough, you sound like an HDMI 2.0 sheep to me. 🙂 Open your eyes my friend. Do some research before you make a childish comment like that.

The main use for UHD 120Hz will be gaming.
For now we get lower lag, framerate needs faster cards unless playing older games or reduced quality is ok.

Movies are shot at 24/25/30 fps, same for 4k BD and streaming content,
and broadcast might be 60hz, but wont be uhd and/or full color.
So for +90% of users on this planet this wont matter, not even talking about the fact they those dont usually even know what 4:4:4 means.
