Decent looking build.
Certainly I'll have to figure that thing with the tubes, led and the aquearo out, now that I have one too. 😀

Take this with a pinch of salt, because I don't have direct experience building desktops, but I don't really understand this build. Is it me or is there a load of unused space in those two modded cases that have been joined together? Looks to me like it could be a lot smaller, with it being an HTPC and all!? Looks like a pretty good result & looks professional though, just not good enough to justify what looks like a load of free space in the two cases for an HTPC.
(I hope people don't mind my slightly negative tone, don't normally see much criticism in these Guru3d Rigs of the Month, but I do want to offset what I've said by saying it looks like a professional job, and it has a neatness (not the US meaning of 'neat' though!) to it.)

^ OK-ish look. But not very impressive.
Edit: HH, there is nothing wrong with "Casper" mod. It is clean made, a lot of air.
It's just me, that I do not see anything extra other than having 2 cases there.
My way is to have overkill/wasteful air cooling. My case is ugly but effective. I cut away stuff I consider not good for airflow. Then it makes less noise and is cooler. I do not see how anyone around would like my case (and it is cheap as hell). So you are right that this one is not my cup of tea 🙂

ROTM April was deliberately selected this month as it was something different and out of the ordinary scope of builds we have had, and that can mean its not everybody's cup of tea, I get that.
But before some of you start all the bashing, ROTM are chosen for being something different, and different doesn't always mean 5K builds or sponsored build with plexiglass cutouts and branded logos and laser etched builds with copper tubing based liquid cooling. Something, different in this case is a custom modded HTPC. A Joe average build also can be nice right ?
For those complaining, by all means please mod something yourself and submit it to ROTM.

I think it's interesting to hear people's views on what they like & what they don't, I don't think it has to conform to an overwhelming positivity - there'd be no point in a comment section then really. Rude negative comments should definitely be avoided though in my opinion.

Why using a FX8350 for HTPC? You like it Hot?
Those Tubes around Cables really? Sorry i usually like most Builds, doesnt depend on High-End or not, but this one is just not well built nor thought...

Actually I thought those tubes around the single braided cables to be quite original, haven't seen it before.
And as war child said, you don't always buy new stuff for a HTPC. Mine is running on my old, 8 year old socket 775 platform that once was my gaming rig.

I would agree. I don't always feel like ROTM winners have systems which are amazing.. not saying they necessarily even need to be to be winners, however we should be able to speak (with respect) about what we like or don't quite like about systems presented here without it being considered bashing.
I don't feel like anyone has bashed this system anywhere in this thread thus far.

Well i thought it looked pretty cool and for once I was happy to see something that as Hilbert mentions doesn't have sponsors or quad Titan X's and £500 worth of water cooling gear on it. It's got a nice colour scheme, looks tidy and the tubes with the cables is a novel idea.

Why is there such a narrow view with home theatre pc's? When I build one I want to it be able to game. An 8350 coupled with a 970 is perfect for your typical tv - 1080p @ 60hz. You would get 60+fps in most games with max settings, sounds ideal to me. The 8350 does have c6 power states, powernow!, and turbo boost settings so it can be silent when not gaming... Most of us have these features turned off in a gaming rig but they'd be ideal in this setup. I think the color changing cable idea is great, and I've personally never seen two cases melded together- I own a Corsair Carbide case which is pretty much the same concept, and I love it. Bello!

I like it. It's different, thinking outside of the box and has some cool features. Plus the quality of the case modding itself looks really good. 🙂
