Well to be fair, HIS and XFX rely on AMD for GPUs. If AMD ain't supplying enough chips, then they have no choice but to bow out.

Its a shame, never good to see a choice go from the market. Competition is always good, but sometimes the market can get flooded with too much choice. I remember BFG, they made some seriously amazing graphics cards. I still have a BFG T-Shirt I got free with my 8800GTX OC card. Still fits me too 🙂 I remember also when there used to be like 20 motherboard manufacturers. Now there is only like five. Asus, MSI, Gigabyte being the big three.

Yeah, that's definitely true. What I had in mind, is maybe a merger would be good for those manufacturers. I mean for example, Gigabyte taking over XFX. It would let Gigabyte focus on like psu's, case's and mobo's, while XFX takes over the gpu department. I'm just thinking aloud here, I mean of course it's not as easy as it sounds, but it doesn't sound too bad. ..and maybe going multi-manufacturer isn't too bad of an idea. Wait, wasn't XFX once nVidia only..?

Oh yeah, back then it was like Foxconn, aBit, ECS and etc.

XFX was only Nvidia. I have an XFX alpha dog 8800 gt on my desk. I like XFX and HiS. HiS has always been my favorite amd gpu manfuctuer.

I have a XFX MX440 still somewhere. Also Foxconn still exits, they just make iphones and things now. They still make boards though for lots of big OEMs, used to make quite a few for dell. My old S775 MSI board was made by Foxconn as well.

XFX used to do Nvidia as well as AMD graphics cards back in the day. They shot themselves in the foot by snubbing Nvidia.

This article does not state anything as fact, just pure speculation as to what usually happens to any market when numbers fall, the small guys take the hit.

I've just been running unreal4 engine and from what I see its a killer app. If you wanna play full fat unreal4 engined games you are gonna need to upgrade. :boob:

Exactly .... I was think HIS was pretty well selling in Europe.. Maybe less present in USA.

Big shame if HIS and XFX do decide to stop releasing GPU's, my first card was an XFX 6800GT, loved that card, came bundled with Doom 3. Also had a pair of HIS Iceq 2 7970 Ghz editions and they overclocked nicely, the cooler was one of the best I've used as well, they will be missed.

Haha, same here, except I think my 8800 was an "Ultra" OC. It's one of my favourite shirts to go with at the gym, to quality material. Occasionally some of the older nerds like myself will recognize the decal (the blue head) and company and what BFG actually stands for and grin, but most young ones never heard of it and won't get it. 🤓 OT - These are all quite old school manufacturers, it would be a shame to see them go.

No need to buy a new GPU, hasn't been for years tbh, the CPU is the bottleneck.

Lol, i think you got it the wrong way around...

I thought by the thread titles, smaller gpu makers meaning Matrox,SIS...etc.

Ye, it's a bit missleading.

Care to embelish your statement a bit for clarity?
