This applies to all games or just some of them with some XBOX integration or whatsoever? For instance, now I'm playing PUBG and Mass Effect Andromeda, are those affected by this?

Game DVR has a profile file forgot what it was called but GameBarPresenceWriter.exe tends to pop up in the task manager for running processes whenever a compatible game is launched though this happens even if DVR recording is disabled or the entire game mode for that matter. (Including uninstalling the XBox app itself.) though I can't say I'm too surprised since as I remember the feature keeps records of the last half hour or so played which would cause reads and writes to the HDD thus stuttering depending on the model of said hard drive and other possible bottlenecks. (I've had it disabled since RS2's release though even if it's intended to be lightweight having it use the HDD would contest with the game itself doing anything from streaming data to loading when switching levels no?) RS2 also introduced that oddity "Disable fullscreen optimizations." compatibility options but I haven't found a definitive answer over what that actually entails, also handled via profile compatibility and something about behaving a bit like borderless mode but Microsoft really should provide some better documentation on some of these features, at least the ones regular users can access without jumping through various hops and what not. :P (The group policy editor and registry editor are handy for W10 but not exactly something your average user would be making much use of for example.)

And bcastdvr.exe too. Apart gpedit.msc there is also the classic "dirty" solution: delete or rename the offender exe(s) directly. C:\Windows\System32\GameBarPresenceWriter.exe C:\Windows\System32\bcastdvr.exe ...untill next Windows update. LOL

Windows works in mysterious ways.

"but that’s not working for everyone." Ehm...

Haha I disabled all that junk when it came out(game bar, dvr, etc). I had a bad feeling new features like that would be borked.

Windows 10 always has a little something hidden to further aggravate it's users.

Nah, it's OK. Disabling anything windows related does not make your PC a game machine. Windows is great as it is. A miscalculation in game's fluidity cannot destroy the whole project. Wait for next build.

Don't know if my issues with W10 Creators Update are related with this but I was able to fix it by downgrading to Windows 8.1. I had stutters and game window freezes. Tried many things including 5 formats, various Nvidia drivers, disabling Game Mode, removing overclocks, reinstalling games all to no avail. I kept having those freezes and stutters for 3 months. Eventually I gave up. Thought I had hardware issues until I decided to give my old Windows 8.1 copy another go. Surprise surprise everything works like a charm. No freezes, no stutters and games feel more fluid. Something is really terrible with W10 CU.

That is why I sticked to Win 10 Enterprise LTSB Annyversary.

If reinstalling Windows wasn't such a tedious process, I'd have replaced it with W10 LTSB by now. In the meantime, disabling these features is slightly easier to deal with.

C:\Windows\System32\GameBarPresenceWriter.exe
I have know about the for while it does start any time any game starts and builts directly into win10 and it not part of XBOX integration junk. only way to stop is rename it. they need to stop with this integrate this integrate that, special when it come to XBOX related features or give reliable way to disable it all with castrating some part of the os seeing as renamed or not i have no stuttering in my games I just leave it be, swtor is stuttery mess which isnt windows fault, all my other game pretty much have no stutter,

Unfortunately this is not going to happen and things are going to be worst because MS wants XBOX ecosystem to be THE official (and enforced) Windows 10 gaming platform. The exec in charge of Xbox has been put in charge of "Windows gaming" to unify both platforms. March 2015:
MICROSOFT HAS A vision for the future of gaming: A unified experience across Xbox One and Windows 10. Xbox head Phil Spencer laid out that plan at the Game Developer's Conference in San Francisco, where he conceded Windows lost the plot with gamers. The time has come, he said, to change course. "Our goal in gaming at Microsoft is to let people play games wherever they are," Spencer said. "Gaming was once central to what we did on Windows, but we lost our way. Now we hope to have a Windows release that's the best Windows release for gamers."
https://www.wired.com/2015/03/microsofts-vision-games-unifying-xbox-windows-10/ When it said "unified" read Windows gaming downgrade to make it similar to Xbox One "experience". Using Windows 10 Enterprise and gpedit helps a lot to disable the game mode and game DVR crap working in background, if not a gazillion registry and app settings must be changed to avoid sfc errors...and updates reverting all again for our "own best interest".

yah I original thought the GameBarPresenceWriter.exe was why some game where crashing to desktop if they where tab out of, but a CU a few months back fixed it, I still think all had something to do with integrate xbox into windows... I dont even own MS XBOX of any kind and I never will, so i dont want any of if nor do i want the stupid DVR function and gamebar enabled by default i dont DVR and stream my games, nor will i never and there are other like me that think the same way so why it enabled by defualt is beyond me resoruces wasted by a fuction that will never be used is same thing as have 16gb of ram that never full used or all 16gb for somthing not used. I cant be hard for MS to ask upon install if "do you have xbox?, if not do plan to get one? do you need DVR/live streaming functions?" if no they just dont install or disable all that stuff. there are plenty of software out there that will do this for and wont automaticly use start up and us resouces like MS approach. of even if you dont need or want it we think you do and we have it enabled by defualt

At the very least, MS could do what they did with Skype or MS Office: don't actually include it in the OS, just have links to install them. That way everybody wins - it allows MS's products to be known by all consumers, all while reducing the time to download/install the OS/updates (which in turn puts less load on MS's servers), reducing unwanted CPU time, and reducing disk consumption. I still prefer none of this stuff to be even advertised in Windows, but I'd rather have a few KB of an ad that I can permanently remove quickly than to have clunky software I never asked for.

true they stubborn though, another thing that annoys me wth is candycrush and bunch of other game apps automaticly installed, on clean install, just for you to unistall them and see them re installed upon next reboot, and some time before the reboot even happens. alot good thing about win 10 but they also doubled down on the annoying things. one day when i really get annoyed I will get LTSB iso and install that just to avoid most this stuff, but right now i so burnt out from reinstall/upgrades from win 10 i just dont want be bothered and the complete install/upgrade of os every 6 months is not something i want to deal with special if tend to fubar things and system admin definitively dont want to deal with, no sure how frequant those LTSB iso are though, i surf the web and game that is it, if it not bothering me or causing me grief i just ignoring the best i can, which only goes so far with OCD I still to this day randomly open taskmanager just to make sure there is no unknown programs running not as much as i used too

Apparently I can't rename GameBarPresenceWriter.exe even with administrative permission. It want's "trustedInstaller" permission right after the one before and I just get into "Try Again " loop...

Boot up a live Linux distro from a flash drive and deal with it from there. Though, I'd say try disabling the service and reboot, first.

you have to change permission for the file to you user name, basicly you have take permisions away from trusted installer and give your user full access https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1911-take-ownership-shortcut.html https://winaero.com/blog/how-to-take-ownership-and-get-full-access-to-files-and-folders-in-windows-10/ there more way do this

I took over owner permissions long time ago...then again, I didn't do it since the "creators upgrade" ... As for the service, it is not running. I have it disabled along with literally everything that came with creators... edit: solved, had to "retake" whats mine 😀
