Couple of guys were jailed over here in the UK recently, because that was the only method they could use to communicate with unsuspecting girls who had been brought over here from places like Kosovo for the purpose of arranged marriages. The registrars in the area concerned became suspicious when that was the only way that the girls could use to understand what was going on. The laughable thing about all this was the use of iPods. No bog-standard Chinese tablets or mobiles for them! No sir.

I don't believe in translations of any kind. They don't work and never will... Names, swear words and any type of slang will not be corrected resulting in incorrect words!! Nothing better than writing yourself...

I'd use it for languages I cannot understand or write, because I've never learned them. So it's not an option to do it myself. But, as I'm not going on vacation now, I'll just want to check it out for toying around with it 🙂

Played a dungeon in FF14 with some german people because that's the only group I could get. Had to keep a steam browser window open on google translate and quickly type in what they were saying and my response. What I would give to have that built into the chat functionality of games.

Very handy for language / text when you travel in country who had different graphology style: chinese, Japan, russian etc .. Specially when they absolutely dont care to write indications in english for international tourist ( hello tokyo ). Samsung had a pretty good auto translate software on his galaxy line up, have help me a lot in some country. Its not perfect, but i can imagine in some years with more computing power, it could goes better.

Of course they will work eventually, language doesn't evolve at a fast enough rate that it would be impossible to have a dedicated team of people (or machines) to constantly update a database. And besides, even if you learnt a new language you'd pretty much have to live in that country to understand the correct use of slang. (That's the difference between fluent and native in the language learning circles IIRC)

I was thinking the same, haha. However, since he is from Switzerland, English is not his first language so it's perfectly normal. That said, it did remind me of Sasha Cohen (Ali G) in the movie Borat. Remember the famous line - You can stay my house, sleep my bed, use my sister...lol
