Testing to see if they can switch off the internet in case of civil disobedience maybe? Or someone unplugged it and plugged in the microwave instead for pop corn.

So basically, YOUTUBE was down. Take away Youtube, Bittorrent and Steam and suddenly the streets in the Western hemisphere will be full of people again.

Was this a global outage? Ie, were all their datacentres around the world down, or just their US based ones? If the latter, it's even more incredible.

My thoughts exactly. Because SOPA and ACTA failed so dramatically, people in power will find new ways to shut things down when the time comes, regardless of its legality. The current regime has already taken control of the banking/monetary sector (40% of economy) through Dodd/Frank financial reform bill, healthcare via Obamacare (20% of the economy), most of the domestic auto industry, and while they try again and again to grab the last bastion of freedom, the internet... they're monitoring every word you type, what you say on the phone, and where you are. And you know who the enemy is?? People who believe their constitutional rights are non-negotiable, military veterans, entrepreneurs, people who have family values, and people who believe in God, not government. Isn't it funny how only a month after taking office in 2009, the Department of Homeland Security came out and said this clear as day in this DHS document. It actually claims that veterans coming home from iraq and afghanistan are highly likely to be terrorists, as well as the other groups i mentioned. Even more stunning... the document makes NO MENTION of Islamic Extremism as being a threat...

I wonder if MS will make an ad out of this?

It was deliberate. Google executives are right now looking at the result and drinking champagne.

RW extremists really are a threat as are LW extremists. The document wasn't about Islamic terrorism. Whether you like it or not, right-wing extremists have committed far more acts of political violence since 1990 than American Muslims. The document does not say, veterans are 'highly likely' to be terrorists. It notes accurately that RW extremist groups target 'disgruntled veterans' and some veterans identify and migrate to these groups. Ignoring facts that make you uncomfortable will not make them go away. I'm a retired vet myself and some of this information makes me uncomfortable.

I'm going to give you a verbal warning right now, do not turn this into a political or a wild conspiracy thread.

There are plenty of people out in the streets even with YOUTUBE..at least around here there are more than enough to clog the roads with traffic.

This is CLEARLY at least 10% of spam. Mimecast at my place of employment rejects a spam email from a Gmail account every single second. Look at me, I'm Google and our GMail service is as popular as Outlook.com thanks to our many spam bots.

I wanted so much that someone would make it political conspiracy thread, they usually are 80 - 90% right 🙁 And it's really interesting to see how people turn themselves into internet. I didn't have an internet for a week, and nothing happened. Google can destroy it self and i wouldn't care. Look through window. People didn't have internet for years and were a lot happier than we are. And a lot of people share moments from their life or maybe whole their life on the net, but they don't realize that other people don't really care at all what are they doing, where they are. You want something from me? Text me. Can't text me? Shout out loud behind my windows. On the other hand My fingers can't even type that internet is bad or something. No it's good, it saves a lot of time, we can chat being miles away from each other. And people sometimes forget, that's really great, we don't appreciate it. I remember when i first time got the internet....man i could jump out of the window. But to make your life dependent on internet is NOT good. There were times when people respected each other on the net, well at least in my LAN. Now everyone can put trash on each other and they are doing it, there is no respect. Something bad happening...

What is wrong exactly with an opinion that is different to main stream media anyway? We all know that all politicians and media lie and are up for anything that gets them power and money. I thought America was supposed to be the land of the free and being able to have free speech? Sorry. Don't mean to go against a Don or anything. It's just that I see many a thread closed because people have there eyes closed and can't see what is happening in the world but ironically we see how corrupt businesses, banks and people in power really are. Anyway back on topic...

This isn't a democracy, this is an online forums with rules. Plus the reason I say no conspiracies is because threads get out of hand, and people get out of hand. If I stop it at the source, then nothing goes wrong. But no more replies on this from anyone, you will get points against you.

Glad my life doesn't depend on Google...or the internet.
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/220/220188.jpg
im glad i dont depend on google, and youtube is the only thing left i usually need from google, and i would gladly jump into another service if youtube fails to deliver after all google means the same as yahoo for me, an internet "giant" is like a blimp or zeppelin, they get really small in no time, they are just a few steps away from being replaced in your web browser
