I personally love the Chromebook as it delivers a lot of what your average person needs at a good price. GOOD PRICE being the main point - which this doesn't deliver.

The Pixel is not a bad machine at all, we have an original one because Google gave a lot of education sites a Pixel. Runs great, problem is there isn't a whole lot you can do it with it because there isn't a whole lot available to do with it. The funny thing is we turned developer mode on and installed Windows on it too, since Chrome OS is useless as it is now.
Would I ever buy a $1000 Chromebook? Heck no. Would I buy a $200 Chromebook? Sure, why not.
You can just get a cheaper laptop, download a Chromium build, and convert it to ChromeOS for cheaper. 😀

My Windows laptop was cheaper than it's ChromeOS based counterpart.
I wouldn't have an issue with ChromeOS if it wasn't just a gimped Linux distro that uses a browser for a UI. Had Google left some of Linux's functionality in tact, it could be a great OS and potentially be a threat to Windows.

Why would you buy this when you could install ChromeOS / Chromium / Linux on a normal laptop and still have a fully functioning machine dual booting with Windows?

Chromium hardly has any updates to its kernel. ChromeOS porting isn't always 100% stable, and can't really say for Linux. Other distros such as Ubuntu or Debian have 100x more support than what ChromeOS has.

As would...Well a lot of people looking to spend $1000 range on a laptop or ultrabook. The Pixel is too much for what it is.
