I (American taxpayer) just paid 900k for a segway with an arm.

.... I guess there be a good reason for them "wasting" that much money on such thing, But I fail to see what the reason was.

You paid 900k to employ dozens of people, helped to teach students more about robotics, and possibly are paving the way for problem-solving robots that need less input and can do more by indentifying their surroundings. There are far, far more useless projects in the budget to pick on. As far as wastes go, this is actually probably a pretty decent use of money.

And that scientist in the video is doing his best to piss them off.

What? $900 000 for THAT? I expected robocop or something equivalent... I lol'd when I saw the robot in the video...

Strongest? It lifted a chair. What was the weight or mass of that chair?

I fail to see something extraordinary in that video. All the mechanics seem kind of basic, but i´m no expert. One thing i know for sure is that one day they will claim the earth. Not today, not tomorrow but possibly next week, we´ll be their bitches if you keep kicking them like that.

I have to agree with others, I don't know how the hell that is "strong". Once it attempted to pick up something that was heavy enough where the motors didn't have enough power to overcome the torque on the body of the robot, its done. I'm sure that isn't a very high weight. I'd bet any of the robots that do welding or pretty much anything in auto manufacturing are "stronger", and sort of more human like.

@S3nt3nc3 can't agree with you more ;D

Not enough brain in the mid section.

i need to replace my legs with wheels in order to become more humanoid

remote controlled ?? But then again what you expect from American Development. Better leave it to the Japanese Folks. If that thing is a humanoid my remote controlled toy car is half way there.
