Thank you for the review, Hilbert! When can we expect a review of the 1080 Xtreme Gaming? Cheers

So is the idea that we're just not going to be seeing any 1070/1080s with better power supply (for bigger overclocks)?

The problem is part of the question. Why invest massively in expensive PCB designs if all cards end up like 50 MHz away from each other when tweaked?

It would be very interesting to see a direct comparison of a G1 Gaming 980 Ti with a max stable overclock vs. this G1 1070 max overclock (though probably not a static one). Custom 980 Ti's are going anywhere from $300-375 used and with the spotty availability of 1070/1080s, a good deal on a Ti might not only net someone more card for the money but actually a faster card all around. Ti is a hell of an overclocker.

Ty for the review HH. Love these reviews, but with this new generation cards...i feel like they can easily be cut down in size/pages. Mostly now i only view the heat, noise pags and one game fps/fcat page as they are so equal in performance..then i jump to your conclusion 🙂. Seahawk will be my next i think, when prices hopefully settle a bit...

Yeah....pretty much buy what you like the look of. Unless Nvidia unlocks the bios voltage, then all these upgrades over reference are moot. So until someone releases a GTX 1070 "Hello Kitty FTW And The Horse She Rode In On Super OC Edition V".....I'll stick with my EVGA GTX 1070 SC I just bought.

True. I guess I just want to see what these cards could really do if they weren't limited by power.

I think you'll find that Pascal has all these limiters and protections on there for a reason. That reason being i think they squeezed more performance out of Pascal than they did with Maxwell out of the box so Pascal can't cope with too much more power. Plus G1 used to be top of the line and now it's more mid-high end quality and their Extreme is now the better high end with probably better sorted chips and better power delivery.
