The question is, who can afford that?

Why is everything stated as "next generation" on this article? It's not next generation, it's this generation, current high end hardware.

RTX 4000 series are expected in 8-9 months (Sept) if latest twitter rumors are true. If downward spiral of crypto makes mining no longer profitable and if there is an abundance of supply by then, this card would be massive buyers remorse. 😀

With latest chips shortages prediction i am not sure if we will see any new generation before early or mid 2023. Unless paper launch would make sense. Nothing would surprised me, thats true too..

Miners.

Miners.
Its not worth it even for them.

Why not? You can pay it off in 20 months and everyone expects the market to come back with the next GPU launch, which is presumably fall. If it does come back then you can pay it off in 8 months. It's basically a no brainer.

Wow such profit, mine 24/7 for 20months to barely get even, not.

Then it´s just for people with a lot more money than brains.

It's not worth for mining because its consumption is far beyond the sweet spot. Before deciding which GPU to take for mining you have to calculate which GPU provides best performance at the lowest cost. Once you do, you go on mass on that GPU. With 450 Watts which you can push up to 600 Watts with a performance increase of maybe 5-10% is not worth compared with a GPU that delivers 5-10% less but consumes half as much power. Thus for Mining GPUs like the 3080, 3070, 3060 etc. probably are more suitable considering cost / cryptogain value.

Btw, that's the actual GDDR6X spec, if you don't cheap out on 2 dollar components on a $1500 (official MSRP LOL) GPU.

Funny part is that there are lots of guys who can afford this, and i´m not talking about miners. Some guys make so much money, that 5K for a GPU is just pocket change.

He will probably get two or three of them , just in case he breaks one. Also . 600W on single cable. 😀

Idk what the MSRP of the card is but presumably it's not like double a 3090. You don't have to run the card at 450/600w - you can easily downclock it, even a novice miner using nicehash will do this automatically. The bigger point is that it's another SKU which means more availability. If you can't buy a 3080/3070/3060 but you can buy a 3090Ti and the turnaround time is roughly the same, then who cares? Just buy it, make it as efficient as possible and in 20-24 months it's paid off. Three times as fast if the market goes back up.

That power draw is ridiculous...

Miners don't have brains, they can't see its not profitable on the long run.
