What is this "launch" thing you are talking about? We are still waiting for real "launch" of 3080. 😀

You have had the base frequency middle 4 and 1 switch places in the article text (1140MHz), compared to the table (1410MHz). At first I first shocked by the low base, before looking at the table. This and the AMD counterpart might be the cards I'm mostly interested in. I'm looking forward to the Guru3D reviews!

It seems to be bit better value proposition than 3070. Not much, but still... better.

6700xt should be answer to this. Im expecting amd announce it somewhere early next year.

Assuming you want it for 4K gaming and don't care about AA, I think the 3060Ti is probably the lowest you'd want to go. With AA, I think this would become obsoleted rather quickly. The 3070 is already barely able to play games at max detail in 4K at/over 60FPS. That being said, I personally don't like AA most of the time, so this would actually appeal to me. My hopes are that AMD releases something for $350 and sits between this and the 3070. That'd be the sweet spot for me.

Looks like they will also release a 3070ti (cut-down 3080) and a 3080ti (cut-down 3090) in the near future to counter AMD's 6800 series cards..

It's weird that they release a Ti before the non Ti version, or at least i don't remember that happening before

No, I don't think anyone would get this for 4k gaming. I'm still sporting a FullHD screen. I'd say this card could be perfect for 1080p. It might also work for 1440p if you are willing to adjust settings, but 3070 might already be a better choice for 1440p.

Well, at what frame rate? At 60FPS, I'd say this is way overkill for 1080p. This makes for a good 1440p RT-capable GPU. Whatever the 3050 will be is likely plenty sufficient for 1080p @ 60FPS.

I don't see how cut-down RTX3080 or RTX3090 can compete, when these cards themselves already can't compete (well) with the RX6000. Nvida needs to find ways of increasing performance of RTX3080 to compete with RX6800XT and lowering the price of RTX3090 to compete with RX6900XT.

You might be right otherwise, but what happens when you turn RT on? Let's say in a new game in 2022. Games are always demanding more and more, so it's dangerous to aim for what's exactly sufficient right now. Regretting not investing a little bit more would suck majorly because it would all be wasted money, unless you are like some of the people here at Guru3D, who can sell a 2-3 years old card for almost the same price they paid for it. That rare skill is not for everyone to possess.

No, Nvidia will sell as many as they can manufacture still well into the future. AMD would need to be able to match or beat Nvidia for a bit longer before Nvidia would start to feel the hurt for real. Also, we haven't still got any real review of the AMD products or got feedback from the driver status. There're lots and lots of people who don't want to get an AMD card because they are too afraid of having to fight with the software instead of simply enjoying the games. Those people aren't just rumours. I know a few in RL.

This^ What´s the point of announcing new releases if they can´t keep up with the demand of the already released cards...

Yeah, I guess in a worst-case scenario, the 3060 Ti is most likely the worst GPU that can reliably get you to 60FPS at 1080p with maxed out details and RT enabled. I personally view RT as the new tessellation - a good technology that, when done right (on both the hardware and software side of things) is worthwhile, but will take a couple years until it can really be used properly and effectively. There currently aren't any games that look flawed without it, so, whatever I end up getting is just whatever will barely play 4K@60FPS, without AA or RT, and replace it when RT is more polished and necessary.

My current understanding of the situation is that RX6800XT wins vs RTX3080 in most situations without RT, but, likely loses when RT is on. I'm also sitting on the fence for a few months at least to see how things pan out.

Agreed, interesting move. It stifles any future midrange product changes without changing their numbering system, though I guess its not impossible that Nvidia could release 3065Ti...

Anything below 3070 got bad rt performance in games i think.

People are not gonna buy these for raytracing.
