Price/availability. The 3090 prices got jacked so much that the 3090 Ti prices in some places were lower at like $2.8K-$3K... too bad scalper bots immediately got all the stock to sell to miners. I thought the $1129 CAD (13% tax) I paid for my 3080 in 2020 was the dumbest purchase I ever made... I still believe it was the dumbest purchase I ever made. These prices are so stupid I'm expecting the market to collapse if things don't change in the next 2 years.

You shouldn't be, as paying a scalper anything is what causes scalpers to exist. They can't scalp if no one will buy from them. The $1129 I paid was the Canadian MSRP + tax for my model of 3080, I got it from a legit shop, not a scalper. If I couldn't get a card from a legit store I would seriously still be using my GTX 1080 Ti... which is roughly on par with a 2080 or a 3060 because nVidia sandbagged for an entire generation. I'd just play my backlog of old games or games which don't require GPU power... like Nintendo's entire library.

Yes I should.I waited 6 months in 2021 after building a brand new computer to get a card anywhere and gladly paid a couple hundred over msrp to get one.

"A couple hundred over MSRP", so basically double the price it should have been. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. You can be happy about being one of those who allows scalpers to exist if you like, and everyone else can think you're an asshole if they like.
