2GB just isn't enough, 4 needs to be standard.

For the normal PC user, 2Gb is perfectly fine. But no one here is 'normal', so I'm gonna agree with you lol. šŸ˜€

Not every one are using uber-high resolutions and 100 mods on their games. 2GB is just fine for casual gamer/user.

For something this high-end, I think 3GB ought to be enough. I've come to notice that nvidia uses faster memory and overall better memory management than ATI/AMD, so 3 or 4GB is really only necessary if you're going beyond 1920x1200 (or if you're using multiple displays). Personally, I see AMD's choice of including more memory to be a better choice, because as long as the driver devs can focus on improving efficiency, that gives the GPUs a longer lifespan (as the extra memory can be used to store more textures or power more displays).

did anyone notice 1 of the memory chips is not cooled on the backside of the card?

I have a 2GB 690 and i have a 120hz monitor. The only game that maxes out my vram is skyrim with Custom flags. With normal ingame AA its fine. So for the majority of games 2GB is fine.

I'm not sure if that's actually a memory chip - seems kinda weird a 2GB card would only have a single memory chip on the back. You'd think there'd be at least 1 other paired with it or none at all. Besides, that's a picture with the heatsink removed. Memory chips don't get anywhere near as hot as the core chips. I have 2 HD5750s of different brands and neither of them have any of their memory chips cooled. At full speed, they definitely get hot to the point it's uncomfortable to leave a finger on it, but I wouldn't say hot enough to be really damaging to the chip.

I find the card unnapealing, especially the cooler. Outdated somehow. I do like the white color, i could use an all white GPU on a black build along with white cpu heatsink, white psu and white psu sleeving kit etc. ThatĀ“s one of my ideas for the future, to do a white and black build.

It's not a memory chip. It's a Proadlizer IC
