EDIT: Just follow the Steam guides to restore the soundtrack. Just like with GTA, some of the music had to be removed for the game to be sold.

One of the best games I ever played. Replayed it some years ago and if you can behind the outdated graphics, it's still very much enjoyable. The remake is decent, but the original is so much better. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I feel it didn't quite capture the "feeling" the original had.

I actually never played with that game. There used to be a game called Gangsters: Organized Crime, a early 2000/late 90's sandbox game. Ton's of fun. I wish they would make a HD version of it. That City of Gangsters game is similar but just overly complex for a dummy like me.

Wait, did they remove the OST from the original game, i just bought the remastered trilogy and was shocked to hear the OST was gone, luckly you can at least can play it via spotify in the back ground which is at least better than the generic stuff they replaced it with.

I never played them game with the soundtrack on.
This game with texture mod, resolution and fov fixes looks great for a 20+ year old game. Still feels better then many modern games.

As far as I know, the OG Mafia had some of the songs removed, but adding them back in is easy - if you check Pcgamingwiki, there's even a link to the needed files. The rest is a matter of copy/paste.

^^I bought Mafia way back on it release, but i had no idea they had removed the OST music in that time, it has been a while since i last played it. ha

It's a game with a very strong narrative, really good. One of the very best in gaming.
But the game now is it dated in controls, gameplay and graphics.
So I would recommend the remaster. Mafia: Definitive Edition.
You can get it on Steam, right now for 15 euros. Gamebillet, an official store, has it for 12 euros.
For this money, it's one of the best purchases you can make.

It's one of my all time favorite games. The original gameplay is a bit clunky for a first timer, but it mostly holds up. Considering it's free, I'd say give it a shot. Graphics were incredible back when it released and are still (in my opinion) decent enough to not detract from the game. The story is fantastic and some of the missions are still fun to play today. The beginning is slow since the story is a slow burn, but it's well worth the payoff.
I agree with Horus that the remade definitive version would be ideal for a first timer. But, my guess is it probably isn't going to be free anytime soon.

Yeah, i just bought the entire remade series for that exact reason... with the discount atm, it wasn't too expensive.
Playing through mafia 1 remake atm - really enjoying it.
Though the mob dude doesn't seem to impressed with this remake... lol
