Whoever is behind this franchise...they were on to something good when they released FC2. Yes...yes...there were many complaints about the way the enemy re-spawned and lack of wildlife, people, etc. amongst other bugs. None of that is being contested here. The point is there were some very immersive qualities about FC2 that were summarily squashed with the release of FC3 turning off a lot of people (myself included). Now it appears they are moving even further away from that realism with FC4.
My main hope with the Far Cry franchise was that it would be a series of open-world, sandbox environments with strong realism, lean controls and no HUD so the player would essentially forget his or herself while playing. Instead it's turning into some sort of bizarre, arcadish, entertainment circus sideshow. For all it's failing points, FC2 could have been honed into an amazing experience that would be scaleable to the player's preferences. A true loss to the gaming community at this point.

Totally agree and I can see Far Cry 4 being pretty much FAIL as far as I'm concerned, each to their own of course. Just waiting for Call of FarCry 5 : Modern Bungee Jumping

FC3 was excellent fun in a nice reasonably open world. More of the same on a bigger scale will be great.

I do agree far cry 2 was the best though. The immersion was fantastic. Far cry 3 was great too but a lot more childish. Let´s see what 4 brings on the table.

Don't get how people can like FC2, i've tried to play it several times and it's about as fun as actually getting malaria, sure the tech was good, but with a bland setting and blander characters what's the point.

Fc 2 and 3 are equally ****e in their own ways. Its pointless debate really, i mean other than vass and the drug trip scene, there really is no point in playing fc3 at all.
Eg: Fc 2 has diamond hunting ( yawn but least you can buy guns with it) and fc 3 has caves with a treasure box containing a battery, junk and buyers remorse.

It depends on what immerses you into a game. FC2 provides immersion for me in truckloads...FC3 makes it impossible for me to experience. I've played FC2 so many times I feel like I was born there...seriously. And the amazing thing is I have yet to get bored with it.

Far Cry 2 didn't have good story but the world was very immersive. Far Cry 3 is too arcadish (or as someone said childish).
