I've been enjoying this game since launch, it's nice to see some benchmarks for a racing game, doesn't happen too often, thanks Hilbert π

Thanks for the article HH!
How come RX 580 8GB outrun RX 480 8GB in 1080p by 9fps?o_O There shouldn't be 9 fps difference between these two cards, they're almost identical with a bit higher GPU clock on RX 580 side but almost 13% higher fps on RX 580 side, wtf!? Driver "optimizations" in favour of RX 580 cards?

Considering both are Polaris, I highly doubt that.

It is clocked a bit higher, for DX11 in particular going by some of the reviews of the third party models that are clocked even further above stock those even close in on the Fury GPU's though for Vulkan and DX12 the AMD Fury pulls ahead again.
(AMD could perhaps do with some tweaks to the D3D11 driver in general?)

EDIT:
Couldn't find a review of a stock 580 GPU, well the above works I suppose.
(CPU limitation probably hitting for 1920x1080, 2560x1440 sees the higher clocked 580's close in on the higher-end GPU models and then for 3840x2160 they falter a little bit again.)

"Mercedes, Ferrari or Red Bull"
That's no fair, Red Bull gives you wings! That's cheating!
On a serious note, I always appreciated how Codemasters can make such visually appealing games without being too demanding on hardware. I wish more developers were as good at improving performance.

So, another stupid DRM on a game.
Skipping.
Thanks for the review though!

Evry year new version..? I start feeling bored with serie.
No official SLI support again - nothing new π
From review we see game perform very well.
But If someone need SLI. Can try [SLI compatibility bits (DX+DX11)] : 0x020100F5 (F1 2014, F1 2013) with V-sync ON.
They work very well for my F1 2016, and F1 2017 have same engine.
So there is huge chance, bits will also work. I can't test it myself, coz probably I will don't buy it "again" π

The game performance looks promising, but after the last major letdown by Codemasters, i.e. Dump 4, I think it's better for me to pass.

Thanks for the performance insight!
Tho, I gotta wonder why you cover 3.5 generations of AMD cards yet only a single Nvidia generation? There is only Pascal in the list, while AMD gets both Polaris iterations, Fury and Vega benched. It is kind of sad to see that Maxwell got dropped so early, especially when the 970 was such a (in)famous card that sold really well. According to steam, the GTX 960 and 970 combined make up more than 10% of the steam user base: http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/videocard/
Would be great if you could still include the most relevant cards of the 2-3 previous generations for each vendor as well. I know benching is a lot of work, but I'd really appreciate it if you did π
thanks Hilly!
EDIT: Somehow missed that 980 Ti in the graph... But still π

Good read. Not my cup of tea but I enjoy the article and insight. However, on page 8 the graph shows DX11 while your text says DX12. Any chance you will be doing performance analysis in a few weeks when Project CARS 2 comes out?

The last F1 games i really enjoyed and got into was F1 Championship Edition 2006 on the PS3, that was just awesome, and F1 2013 on the PC was also quite good, but after that they just felt meh to be honest.(just noticed F1 2013 and all it's dlc are gone from steam, what has happened there?)

Great review and read Hilbert. Nice to see you testing Racing genre games π
