Aimed at gamers? With a 980M for 4K gaming? Okay...

To have an option to overclock is ok, but the idea of overclocking a laptop is bad. I've failed to see a laptop which has good cooling system. Except low power ones, which don't need it.

Some of the older Alienware models (for example, M17x-R1 & R2, M18x-R1 & R2, etc.) had really good cooling and you could overclock their CPUs and Video cards pretty well without them generating all that much more heat, provided that you made sure the fans were ramping up at the right time.

False. My GT60 Dominators CPU is overcloxed and the 970m in it as well. No issues. I rock an SF-17 though. Even without it the laptop is fine.

Getting a gaming laptop in general is a mistake*, but getting one that can be overclocked is just ridiculous. Though that CPU has decent power efficiency, it's already a little power hungry for a laptop at its default speeds. Personally, I'd rather just build an overclockable mini ITX PC inside a suitcase. * Gaming laptops will either be bulky to the point that it is no longer portable or comfortable, the battery is nearly useless, and due to thermal throttling you never get the performance you paid for. If one of these problems gets addressed, something else is sacrificed.

They were ok, but still got hot and loud as heck when ramped. I used to have one. Laptops like the newer 970M Razer Blade which I replaced the M17x with is just so much faster it doesn't really need to be overclocked. Running Fallout 4 at 1920x1080 in Ultra smoothly even in battery mode is no problem. I try to keep it on fan cooler anyway just to keep it cool and from making to much noise.

My information isn't false. I'm glad you have better experience than i do, but I'm not lying. I haven't yet met person who has Alienware computer at all, because DELL has really bad reputation here and Alienware was and is very overpriced. I repaired a lot of laptops in 10 years of working with electronics mainly computers, desktops and laptops, and i consider good cooling to be more than adequate, so far i saw just low power ones. ~25W and less.

My gaming laptop, the p870dm has its 6700k is OC'd to 4.4ghz from 4ghz, OC'd SLI 980m's and it doesn't have problems with heat CPU never gets into the 80c's with the 4.4ghz OC even in prime torture test, above that and yes it will get close to 88c which is too hot for me, and the GPU's are in the 60c's for games, even the ram is OC'd from to 2667 from 2133. Its possible, but yes, you need some excellent thermal paste or it is too difficult.

7 year laptop gamer here. Spot on this one is, hope they stick a thunderbolt port on it though or it'll be out of date by the summer. That's been the only decinding factor on last years laptops is that missing future tech (and the odd one with a really crap flat keyboard or screen) Got a Samsung g700 atm, runs everything fine. yeah, new games are a struggle but I've got a ps4 so it's fine. I needed an all in one, something I can take traveling but play games. Price is price, nothing will beat a home rig but it's not that easy to play on a 4 hour boat journey.

That laptop will have to be plugged in all the time otherwise you'll have a 30 min battery life :funny:

I have a Sager with an i7 4770K and GTX 980M; it does very well at 1080p with all the eye candy, but I can't fathom even attempting to game at 4K with it. 😕

Like in the old days, when people were armed with multiple pre-charged replacement batteries for their laptops :eek3:

Yeah, thought so too, no offense intended. A single 970 isn't enough for 4K gaming either.

I wonder why this laptop isn't equipped with a 980? There are some gaming laptops that have a 980 in them instead of a 980m. Also there are benchmarks that shows how good the performance those laptops show with the 980 vs the 980m. I mean if you are selling a laptop as a 4k laptop at least put hardware that can run it. I know 1 980 isn't enough for 4k but at least a 980 can do 4k better than a 980m.

Laughable man. Really. Do you need video proof of my laptop NEVER throttling? EVER? Video card or CPU? I am assuming you own one to be able to speak in such absolutes. However we both know you don't. Just chill with the misinformation dude. Please.

Yup. I remember those days.
