Well at least the fan bearings last a decade longer...

That is why I don't use or trust these janky aftermarket homebrew coolers. EVGA isn't the first to have these problems with janky coolers. People think these companies have teams and labs testing this stuff but the reality is a couple guys in a room holding this together with duct tape and zip ties. My Founder's Edition doesn't need surgery or bios updates to stop the bleeding. It also default clocks higher than the posted clocks of even the FTW. It also vents out the back of my case instead of inside like a clown cooler.
+1 Bait and switch is what they they do all the time Reference for life!

Quite a blow to EVGA reputation as a Quality manufacturer.
I seriously hope that pun was intended 😀

Fact that EVGA give another fail. Don't mean all "custom" coolers are bad. You should not blame all brands for bad custom coolers 🙂 Many brands do job really good. It reference builds are throtle more often. Especially high TDP GPU's. Where GPU performance is limited by GPU Boost trchnology, coz reach 85*C. Other thing is.. that some regions have some problems to get cards direct from nVidia. If its not from nVidia, its not fully 100% reference model - right?

I have a evga gtx 1070 sc. My concern is even when I get the thermal pads from EVGA and install them. What long term damage has already been done to the VRM's and mosfets due to prolonged usage without adequate cooling?
Probably none whatsoever. Even though the temps are high, those chips are designed to handle that and a bit more.

Here's the one thing that's not clear to me....I have a 1080 sc acx. But I installed an evga hybrid cooler on it. So I'm not exactly sure if I need to worry about this now. Or if I should install the pads. Also, i run the fan at 100% cause i dont care about sound, i care about maximum cooling. Any opinions?

Someone really loves their reference cooler. There are plenty of decent custom designs regardless of EVGA screwing up here.

I live in South Africa and paid R8500 for my card (which is about 630$ due to our bad exchange rate) and this is the type of products that a "top GPU vendor" like EVGA are selling to us. I read about the bios update and I agree with Hilbert on this. Its just gonna make the card louder. That's not n real solution to the problem EVGA.
yo im also from south africa....buy quality bro...these galax hof cards are the best

yeah evga another brand that sucks and cheaps out on customers by saving on component cost....no wonder so many returns You guys had a "can of woop ass" opened on you

I took some thermal imaging from my colorful igame gtx 1080. I want to know at what temp or condition should we call this gtx 1080 is overheating. The back side of my card is over 80ºC when running furmark, is this overheating? This is my thermal imaging video, just skip to the middle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AznMvyFKhgs

well its all about bios (basically fan preset) hardware wise (chip, cooler etc.) there nothing wrong right ? cant say they saving component cost except there really issue with the hardware, and they avoid replacing unit, then we can say they cheap out

You installed it didn't you? You must have seen if it has pads or not. Pads are needed for better thermal transfer.

meh maybe I will get asus or msi card this time

I think Furmark still needs to be used for stability testing. If the cards survives that, it survives regular use for sure. And I have that claim at build quality. A card that doesn't survive Furmark isn't good enough.

The damage is already done. The Heat sink or plate they use on their cards is very poorly designed compared to other gfx cards that i've seen. The whole thing doesn't look like it's even been made to bother with anything other than the gpu. Even once you do get pads where are you meant to place them because just sticking them on the HS's fins is not going to work out very well at all. You need a proper flat plate for heat transfer so i doubt this can even be resolved with pads. Ramping up the fan curve through VBios is not really a fix but more like a bodge.

everyone do cost savings, but with 10% on production, 10% developing, 40% marketing and 40% revenue proportions they cut only production costs...

Hi there Assume you have installed on yours ACX SC Hybrid and assume you have there one fan which should be cooling the VRM .. About thermal pads,I remember I took out mine Titan X SC stock cooler and when I saw mine thermal pads I've been surprised they survived, only 3 of them actually cool something Regarding the fan profile,I would recommend get EK Vardar fan for Hybrid Regarding the performance at 100% or 50% or even 30%,tried mine with EK Vardar and my best result has been off course with 100%,but noise has been too much for me,with 50% my temps increased by 3°C and with 30% my temps still has been in low 50's(51-53°C) Stock EVGA fan is very, very loud or noisy and to yours question if you are really need thermal pads,I would at least check for piece of mind there and I would install,I replaced mine for Fujipoly Hope this helps Thanks,Jura
