cost saving is common, though when it's done on critical components, it's just beyond retarded ๐Ÿ™

Will adjusting the fan curve from a bios update even have much of a effect on the VRM components without making it seriously loud by really pushing up aggressiveness or how it's called for how quickly the fan ramps up after a certain heat threshold? (Guessing a bit of tinkering in MSI Afterburner and it's fan curve editor could have a similar result or even better.)

see what happened to samsung note they wanted to save some cents too.. :wanker:
Didn't Samsung want to save some microns, rather than cents? It's not like phones would anymore be centimeters thick like in the early days.

What to do? I have a evga gtx 1070 sc. My concern is even when I get the thermal pads from EVGA and install them. What long term damage has already been done to the VRM's and mosfets due to prolonged usage without adequate cooling?

I live in South Africa and paid R8500 for my card (which is about 630$ due to our bad exchange rate) and this is the type of products that a "top GPU vendor" like EVGA are selling to us. I read about the bios update and I agree with Hilbert on this. Its just gonna make the card louder. That's not n real solution to the problem EVGA.

it's not the 1st overheating issue with EVGA... ๐Ÿ™

Another failure and this time from EVGA. Hopefully they have learned the lesson this time and won't try to save a couple of bucks in their products in the future and after regretting because of it!

Quite a blow to EVGA reputation as a Quality manufacturer.

The question is does the GPU's who are in retail shops, are shipping with them ?. Its not the first time we see that the gpu's send to reviewers are not completely the same that the one who ship to shops.
simple answer: get a 1070 from evga and tear it down. pretty easy and its been the same design since the first ACX models. i have a uniblock on my 980tiSC+ with just a junk case fan zip tied on the vrm/midplate. the only time they got hot was when i initially put the fan on backwards.

The only quality about EVGA is their customer support (if you are an American). They had big problems with their GPUs just about every generation I can remember ranging from recalls to overheating issues etc. This seems to be like their biggest cock up yet.

+1 to this. Used to be my brand of choice for nvidia. Not anymore. They charge enough to make it right.

Getting sick tired of this s#@_(#&!!!, what the hell!!! we are talking about $500 to $1000 cards !!! *****Part for EVGA support services reading this******* Get your act together EVGA! and clean your mess! and cross ship your card for free! - Standard RMA is not acceptable in this case! and paying the price of the card up front again...for a cross shipping? NOOO! (to prevent being without decent card "you paid for" for weeks...) And no! one is not supposed to open the card and change the pads or even update the bios....again it's your MESS!! Fix it properly or class action will follow. **************************** ****************

I lost all my respect to EVGA when they stole Rivatuner RTSS's code - you can check this. I am glad my decision not to deal with them anymore is further justified by this case.

That is why I don't use or trust these janky aftermarket homebrew coolers. EVGA isn't the first to have these problems with janky coolers. People think these companies have teams and labs testing this stuff but the reality is a couple guys in a room holding this together with duct tape and zip ties. My Founder's Edition doesn't need surgery or bios updates to stop the bleeding. It also default clocks higher than the posted clocks of even the FTW. It also vents out the back of my case instead of inside like a clown cooler.
