Why does this perform lower than the msi gaming 1070? Even when you overclocked the EVGA higher than the MSI it performed worse than the MSI? firestrike MSI vs Evga - 18384 vs 17774

Hi Hilbert, On the page with Grand Theft Auto V, the 1920x1080 benchmark is duplicated and no 2560x1440 results are shown.

Likely because the average boost on the MSI is a bit better. I too get ~18600 Graphics Score on mine when at stock clocks. And then ~20600 when OCed when the boost ranges from 2025 to 2063MHz and 9410MHz on memory. Also, iirc Hilbert put a +700 on memory for the MSI, whereas only +600 on this one.

Why is RX 480 missing from the charts?

Still investigating. Ran the OC many times yet it seems to be stuck. I think it is stuck on a lower boost mode e.g. the power limiter kicks in due to the tweak being maybe a notch too high. This afternoon I'll re-do the overclocked bench on a fresh system to see if that made a chance. Also could be the new FM update from a couple of days ago. But I am checking it. Updated: second run/check worked well. Firestrike OC results have been updated accordingly. For the other question. RX 480 still need to be added to this data-set.

Happy to see a new review of an EVGA videocard here.

Looking forward to the FTW. My 670 is kinda showing its age.

So I am looking at this card to upgrade my R9 290 and have a few questions. After going over many reviews between other 1070 version like from MSI, is it true that Nvidia locks down some of the headroom and board features like more power phases and additional power connectors don't really do that much. Reading comparisons between MSI and this card, the MSI is only slightly faster even with the better additional power phases and power connector. So, does it really come down to how the card looks to you, price and warranty?

Only true for their enthusiast TITAN equivalents. As for pascal GPUs, all these custom boards are going to OC about the same as all Pascal cores, be it 1080 or 1070 clock about the same 2000-2100~ max. Even reference will hit those speeds. So grab what you think looks the best, cooling/noise, features you want etc. Custom cards are better made usually and will have a longer lifespan(less heat, better components etc)

I am looking forward to the FTW review. 🙂

Honestly, I find this thing hideous... It looks like sneakers. I hope EVGA doesn't stick with this aesthetic.

The card looks way better in person.

the flir measurements somehow disappoint compared to the gaming x msi, how can this be?

Compared to all other 1070s as well. Was going for this card until I noticed this. p.s. re the MSI higher benches, I think HH reported on this. MSI and Asus were sending reviewers higher clocked cards than retail ones. Cheats.

I would only ever buy for the warranty. eVGA need to catch up and play with triple fans. Pascal is extremely temperature sensitive.

Core cooling performance is fine with the Evga and many dual fan 1070s. What the fans cannot resolve is ventilation under the card with certain back plate designs that may heat up the VRMs. Not to say the card wont be fine over many years, but potential buyers may waver over little details like this.

Got my EVGA 1070 GTX FTW on it's way to me right now, I thought I'd wait until the summer ended before upgrading from my 670 FTW. Man, I'll tell ya, that card has been a real dream to use, and runs most things I throw at it, but still, it began showing it's age this year, and I think I'm two compressed air reblasts away from it giving up the ghost. CPU still strong though, really am surprised the old girl is crunching through stuff with no issues...water cooling is a wonderful thing 🙂
