So card is marketed, reviewed, and sold as X, which is faulty due to improper cooling. Card receives a BIOS update to medicate the problem with fan ramp. Card X is now card Y, a louder card that may or may not be overheating still. I would have zero confidence EVGA has patched this issue if they didn't understand or didn't care the card was overheating in the first place.
That is what they call a fail.

I'm not expert but what can a BIOS do to improve temperatures, other than cutting performance?

Evga and other card makers have taken note: some reviewers use thermal imaging cameras to detect such issues. Poorly designed coolers that cannot be quiet without impacting cooling of critical components will be spotted π.

The bios updates don't effect performance one bit. I did it to my 1080 and the card is as fast now as it was before the update. I use Afterburner with all my cards with an aggressive fan curve and I have never had heat issues. All this bios update does is match the "aggressive" fan curve preset in EVGA Precision. Does keep the card cooler, if you don't use Precision or Afterburner. As far as performance...exactly the same.

I guess EVGA has predicted that a bit higher fan curves will extend the card's lifetime just a bit above the warranty time.
When the card finally dies after the warranty expired, EVGA doesn't have to do anything anymore π
This is not good. EVGA was one of the most respected vendors out there. This crap doesn't look good for them.

nnaaahhh...the damage is done..and that vram must have some minuscule defects all ready from overheating decreasing its life span
Besides who gave these people jobs in the first place if they cant do it right

Welp, I know I won't be suggesting EVGA to anyone in the near future. I typically don't buy them anyways since they tend to be priced at the upper end when compared to other respected brands. Higher prices and cut corners are not a good combination. "Hey buddy, buy our card with this really great cooler!" later... "oh guess what buddy, we're going to make your card louder to achieve the performance we advertised when you bought it." :bang:
*Yes, they do seem to be handling the situation well right now. That still doesn't excuse them from allowing this to happen in the first place.

My last four cards have been EVGA, and I recommend them to everyone. Their customer support is excellent, and the cards perform well. I've only ever had one reason to RMA, and it was a fan issue with my 980ti. I love the people who jump on here and slam products they dont know much about. What company has ever been able to produce every single product, year after year, with no issues?
