As an IT guy I am glad my company made the push to get everyone on IE11 last year. We also let people use Chrome if they want, but IE11 is forced as default. However our infrastructure is tightly controlled and we would simply suppress the update which prompts to upgrade to IE11 if we didn't have it. The same way we suppress the Windows 10 upgrade messages. Any IT decent department should not be phased by this. Outside of the business world I see little reason why anyone would use IE over Chrome or FireFox. This push from MS should mean very little to most people

I never had any problems with IE10 crashing in Windows 7 but now my Win7 machine has IE11 though it's not quite the same IE11 that is in 8.1 and 10. Some features are unavailable and the flash player is not built in. Unless you're still running Vista or XP, there is no reason not to be using IE11 since the plain Windows 8 shouldn't even be an option. 8.1 is much better. I really think they should drop support for 8 entirely. Actually, come to think of it, I've never had a problem with IE crashes with any version starting with 4. They have all worked extremely well and IE has always been, and still is, my browser of choice.
It's not like I haven't got 7 or 8.1 or 10... I do have them, I just choose to use 8 because it does what I went to do the best. Just personal choice. Windows 8 will be supported until end of life like all previous OS's

Yeah it is about time for MS to stop supporting old versions of IE. I am willing to bet that MS will continue supporting IE11 because of legacy support under Windows 10 until web developers start to develop webpages that are made for the MS Edge browser instead of IE. If I were running XP I would install either Chrome or FireFox instead of using IE8. Also I have seen some articles about the downfall of FireFox. FireFox has not been doing to well as far as install base goes. Chrome has the largest usage base then IE11 then FireFox.
