This is all so so bad, for both AMD and Nvidia. By the time you can get your hands on a CPU or GPU the next generation is out : /

Depends on how you look at it. Obviously they are selling as many cards as they can make which can't be bad for revenue. Since they both have supply issues its not like one side is winning the supply war. I think its great for them just not so great for consumers.

2020's going great. ordered a 3080 - still waiting wanted a 3070 - forget it tried 6800xt - no way to buy one,AIB cards came out today and prices are just insane,2080Ti territory.

And people were expecting AMD to nail the availability and kick Nvidia's butt. At least, while reading this forum. So, don't just go hoping for something that clearly wasn't happening. This is yet another paper launch. And don't be stupid: it is not in any company's interest to make paper launches.

Nvidia "launched" Ampere in September and currently the rumor mill is saying they only make ~20% profit on Ampere if they sell at MSRP. Which is way to low a profit and the reason is the high manufacturing cost. So they are interested in keeping demand high since that raises prices. Rumors suggest they are doing that by selling to miners when supply starts to pick up thus artificially limiting the amount of available cards to retail. AMD simply overextended, since they have Xbox, PS5, Ryzen 5000 and Radeon 6800 series to supply all at the same time ...pfff.

Going a bit far there with those conspiracy theories.

As I said it's a rumor. But honestly, 2 months of production is a LOT of GPU's unless the allocation they have been given at Samsung is piss poor. It does raise some questions though.

Sorry, but that conspiracy theory about limiting inventory doesn't hold water. NVidia is still making the same amount of money on each card no matter what the inventory levels are, they don't see any extra money because of the high prices. It is only the resellers that make huge profit on the markups because of limited inventory.

Couldn't have said better myself. And the same will go for AMD. They have literally ZERO incentitive to have a paper launch. That just means less money for them because they can't get them to customers. The only "winners" in this are the scalpers.

It's not a theory it's a rumor. The manufacturing price of Ampere is significantly higher (due to the higher quality components required) than previous generation thus their profit is lower compared to their MSRP.

I never said AMD did anything on purpose, but simply stated that they overextended themselves, by launching / being a part of 4 significant product launches all at the same time.

🙄 nvidia's profit on ampere is selling chips to AIB's and expensive Units/Cards in their formely known as tesla and quadro lines, they aren't suffering at all from the things the rumors suggest.

If you listen to their latest earnings call they practically said they shipped around 50% of their cards to miners. Edit. They said 175$ million dollars worth was sold to miners, I'm betting a vast majority of that is 3080 cards.

they sold chips to asic manufacturers, not cards.

Slap on the impact of covid to the world's transport/import systems, and the manufacturing industry. Then slap on that these cards are quiet performance competitive towards Nvidia and the fact that Nvidia are also struggling to meet demand. Then slap on AGAIN the rise of the value of bitcoin mining and the increase in the use of bots................ No matter what either company could of done, everything was going to be basically a paper launch. I work in manufacturing and I can tell you since I've been back at work from furlough we have had consistent nightmares with parts we use to build what we build to the point of multiple stoppages per week and sometimes PER DAY! And the company I work for is a multi billion pound company. Other than delaying these launches by at least a few months there is nothing they could of done. And even then how long do you delay? And will shareholders allow it?

Sorry but thats a conspiracy theory, not a rumor. You should learn the difference as others continue to call you out on it but yoy continue to call it a rumor. A rumor is a statement based off of leaked/exploited information which may not be true A conspiracy theory is saying why a rumor or fact is happening, which no context or facts to back it up. You called out a conspiracy theory trying to disguise it as a rumor which literally comes from nowhere, hence can not be a rumor. Unless ofcouse you have supposed documents showing that your conspiract theory is actually a rumor?

Not according to AMD's board partners.
No doubt, RX 6800 XT and RTX 3080 are fantastic cards that will give you an amazing gaming experience, but there's only so much that can be worth. I heard from several board partners that their margins are really thin, because AMD is charging so much money for their new GPU, guess while stock is low we're going to have to pay for that.

Which is exactly what it is. After talking to one AIB and two distributors during this week, to try and acquire more stock (which have worked before) one of them outright said what I'm relaying the other hinted at that situation without me even asking. The last one didn't really give any information as to why we couldn't get any of the cards we requested.
