What does this even mean? "Windows 10: Driver may get removed after PC has been left idle for an extended period of time."

It also applies to Windows 7 and 8, would have expected it to be a problem with Windows 10's default settings about driver updates but nope.
The fix applies to Windows 7/8 also but the side effect was different.

I guess Windows idle system optimizer could remove the driver and install older.

It means if you let your system idle for hrs it might have problems running any 3d GPU load. You have to restart, there were a few reports of driver issues on this site after long runtimes.

How does one know they were affected? Will it be missing from my control panel "Programs" for example. I'll need to keep an eye on this.

You would know, you probably get errors and maybe game not even start. If you got 1060 or have any issues then install these. Edit: I see you have 5xx card but this issue might affect all cards if you leave the system running a long time (like you don't shut it down at night).

Hmm interesting, they changed how installer behaves. Now it automatically deletes nvidia folder if you cancel installation right after it's done unpacking components. Oh well there's 7-zip to clean trash from the driver. Nice try nVidia 🙄

Stopping the installer from littering C:\NVIDIA with all sorts of drivers you ever installed is only a good thing. Obviously they can't stop you from unpacking it manually, and if you believe that was a goal, you should get a tinfoil hat on. 😛

I always unpack with WinRar and remove shit first anyway. I never run the actual file 😉

This is the second time I clicked clean install and my game preferences were saved from the last version. The last driver it worked but one before it happened, at first I thought I didn't check the clean install box good. Also, this is the first time I got a pop up after installer started installing and then asking if Nvidia can install drivers. GPU-Z still shows these as beta drivers.

No I have a MSI 1060 6GB card, no issues with 397.31 either way, not like I don't keep those specs updated.

- Windows 10: Driver may get removed after PC has been left idle for an extended period of time. Interesting, maybe this is why i always found my pc frozen after i left it downloading games while i was out for work, i was expecting to see downloads finished but instead i found my computer completely in a screen froze state, the only way to fix was hard reset, gonna try this asap

It had nothing to do with actually removing the driver. the driver was still 100% intact file and service registration wise. something just stopped working in the mix of things and GFE would stop being able to detect an installed driver, then offer to install it again.

U..m..... These ARE beta drivers. Also the WHQL status of 397.31 was fixed with the April 28th re-release.

Duh, Yes I forgot the hotfix drivers are beta.

Rofl, it literally means the driver gets uninstalled and you use the preinstalled crap windows 10 comes with. I knew something was strange...

1803 performance any better with these? Udx(or whatever it's called) hang on shutdown still present?
