I played Settlers on Amiga. That was a lifetime ago.

Me too, I bought an Amiga and a big cardboard box full of games from a 2nd hand shop in the 1990's for next to nothing. Settlers was the game out of all the titles I got (they were all in those big retail boxes with manuals thicker than War and Peace back in those days) that I played the most. God knows how many hours I spent beating the 20 levels (iirc). It still holds a very special place in my gaming memories.

I've had Cities: Skylines for a number of years and I don't think I've even installed it let alone played it. Apart from a small niche of gamers who played these games back in the day, I am not sure the market is still there... maybe I am wrong.

considering the fact that that game has taken the legacy of Sim City (considered dead after the 4 installment) and big amount of mod (look at the steam workshop) created in the years after the release of Cities Skylines, many of them are still releasing today, i think that the number of players for this kind of games is still good.

I guess it depends on what they target... I know that Skylines still has a following but the numbers aren't masses. There is also very little competition and few options over recent years, so add ons and mods for Skylines is about the only option there is. Compare that to the vast array of games that were available back throughout the 90's and 00's such as Sim City (as you mentioned) Age of Empires, C+C as well as a whole host of others... It'll be interesting what they do to bring anything new to the game or whether it's just another new theme.

It`s a small niche, like you said, but it`s big enough to be explored. I still like to play Civilization and i have the older Sim Cities on my GoG account, like one or two settlers games.
