Breaking even, if the original reports are true that they've spent 500 mill on this new IP.
Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if 2/3rds of that money is just on marketing.. regardless of my thoughts on the game, the marketing has been saturating to say the least, and I for one am fatigued by it.

IMHO, I don't have the slightest interest in playing this game. A new IP that sounds no different from borderlands.... I'm not understanding the interest.
Compare it to another blockbuster: I was in line to buy GTA 5, because GTA has been with me since childhood (was a teenager for GTA3 and was playing 1-2 and London 1969 prior.)

Probably because of the marketing and the fact is made by the people who made Halo.
From what i've seen of it, this Game is Halo with a sturdier fps aspect but with less 1 liners and no vehicle content worth speaking of.

It a Shooter/FPS that is why it sold like hot cakes, Halo wasnt all that special it was good but was not great, MS spent fortune on adds for the series, Just like Activision spend fortune on COD series and that sells like hot cakes.
GTA series has had alot less spent on adds and is arguable one the best selling franchises.
With out all the fortunes spend on adds i doubt halo would be anything but pass fad along with COD they did nothing but help water down the genre as a whole.
That i still pissed with fact Bungie pretty much gave the finger to the PC after MS bought them out.
I was once upon time interested in HALO when it was for PC/MAC 3 years in development before Bungie even knew about XBOX 2 years later it was on XBOX almost 2 years later pc got bad port. The series was no worth the wait and imo didnt help the genre.
Happy for bungie making something that isnt halo but still FPS/Shooter and its water down crap a opposed to all FPS game before halo.

It should be noted that it was 500 million worth of copies sold to retailers, not to customers, GTAV sold 800 million worth of copies to customers in 2 days.

Might be so but it was done with whole lot less advertisement GTA actual had next to none in compression and it sold more.
Do enough advertisement and anything will sell, even if it a turd. Not say destiny is bad i just saying would it of sold the same amount if it didnt have all the advertisements? same for halo and cod?

From what I've been reading, its also due to the fact that everyone and their dog that purchased a console was counting on this game to be THE title to get to justify their console purchase.
For some, they will enjoy the game and it will be worth it. For the rest, its not at all. I've read many complaints, particularly from people who have purchased the collectors edition to find that the extra cost didn't provide what they were hoping it would.
I haven't yet played the game so I can't comment on whether its good or not, but there is no question that it was way way way overhyped and to me it seems like Bungie was a victim of their own hype, which would explain why there were no reviews prior to the game's release, which is not typical.

The game has so many elements ripped from Halo. I know they created it but it makes it far from original. The gameplay is repetitive and will get boring fast.

I am unable to buy this game, I don't have an X Box or PlayStation. What kind of moron would game on one of those toys.

A moron wouldn't, a gamer would. I've owned multiple gaming PC's over a long period of time and I've made many updates. I've also owned countless consoles, because I enjoy playing games. Some games aren't available on the PC. Simple as that.

I have come to expect negative comments about every single thing posted. Its the latest and greatest craze.. Even if a person has never owned and tried said topic, there will still be those robots, I mean people who can tell you everything about the damn thing. Most of which will be all the bad things they can repeat from another source. Everyone knows everything about everything and has nothing but negative things to regurgitate that's already been said on YouTube or some other forum, its freaking disgusting. I said it before man, the topic could be about anything and I do mean anything, it could be pink cuddly teddy bears and there would still be egotistical negative comments. Go look on YouTube "hate center of the world" and you'll see. Unfortunately its everywhere now and believe me, they'll have some whipped up witty reply of why that is..

It really started with Diablo 3. People were bashing it, people who never even played the game. It was "cool" too hate D3. Game sold 15m copies in the end and that says it all.
With Destiny, people suddenly decided to bash it because it lacks in the story department. It's a shooter. Who cares?

Sometimes we donĀ“t need to play the game to know if itĀ“s good or not. Taking the example of Destiny itĀ“s easy to see that the game is basically Halo with a few MMO elements and while i agree that Halo is a good, itĀ“s not anything special.
The reason why Destiny is having so much attention and success is because of the hype surrounding the game. For the past month, everyday thereĀ“s a different article about the game so people are always aware that the game exists...
By the way iĀ“ve read that this "amazing" FPS has auto aim?! Is that true?...

Well... it's a console game.. so it would have a type of auto aim wouldn't it? the same was true for the halo games on console if memory servers, its like you aim and as the middle of the reticule gets close to the target it sort of auto follows...
That is how I remember it at least for previous Halo games on console, mind you that was years ago for me so I may be wrong.
To be honest I'm not really excited about the new consoles, I don't know why.. when the 360 come out it was really cool... but these consoles are sort of... I don't know how to explain it, just not exciting is the best way to describe the feeling towards them.
