Ah yes, skins messing around with memory, of course.

Ok, I'm not buying this game.

I did not have any kind of stability issues, neither before nor after the patch. but after the patch it happens quite often that demons just stop moving. they just stand still and don't attack anymore. -andy-

Go figure, ID Software devs where to blame here not Bethesda. They should have known this would happen when denuvo is known for worsening performance. Did they not test the patch internally as well ? Why are there new skins to start with ? I havent played the game myself, but i hope this is not such a game which relies on skins and other features to make the game cool.

Seriously? Every feature in a game, no matter how small uses memory and will require code that manipulates that memory. We once had this terrible crash that was a nightmare to debug, and it was caused by a single string copy that passed in a typo to the length.

Both developer and publisher are to blame. They wanted to pull this crap on us and players will not forget. Lets ruin the last good game we have.

One would think they already have UI and skins managed under the hood and run by safe scripts that doesn't mess with engine itself.

Yes, but they made changes to that code to "fix" some issues in the update. Obviously they ended up introducing new ones. ". Fixed an issue so that now all customized character and weapon skins appear correctly all the time"

On other hand if you liked Doom, don't buy this ersatz...

Sorry, but is totally wrong. This totally depends on publisher, not developer. Remember when the exec without any denuvo is leaked and now Bethesda&Zenimax forced devs of Id Soft to push the denuvo in game. Denuvo always cause stuttering and glitches, because doing his job with the help of Cpu,not matter how powerful it is. 🙂 ID Soft make a good game, but its not their fault of implementation of denuvo.

Please, you cannot generalize like that. I played the game from start to finish and it ran absolutely, perfectly and gloriously silky smooth. I agree, Denuvo is not exactly blameless and it definitely tampers too much in some games but not all. I'd say that it depends on the system as some handle Denuvo better/worse than others.

Surely Denuvo only kicks in when you're playing multiplayer?

Apparently not. Also, it's a very "lovely", intrusive kernel-level anti-cheat implementation from what I hear.

Perhaps these demons were cheating before the patch? 😉

Urgh! The update text says you can uninstall it anytime. I have done so, I wonder if it now prevents me playing Doom.

Perhaps Bethesda isn't to blame for Denuvo, but I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if they're the reason the game was released broken and incomplete, because that is a very Bethesda thing to do.

Hmm,but but.. suddenly 4A Games & Deep Silver remove denuvo from their Metro Exodus. But why, everything was fine, isnt? 🙂

Denuvo itself isn't a source of performance loss, VM Protect is, the Antitamper and VM Protect tools were combined to make a formidable (but heavy) anti-piracy tool. Denuvo Anti-cheat is a different beast, it runs and keeps idle a kernel driver at the start of the game and only does anything with it when you choose to play multiplayer. misusing vulkans memory management can definitely tank performance though......

People can't be trusted not to cheat. It might be an unpopular opinion, but I for one hope if Denuvo wasn't causing the issue that ID put it back in.

I bought it on Steam when it was released on the platform but never tried it since I had other games to play first. Too bad, should have tried it first as well in order to contradict your statement 🙂
