My kit I bought 2 years ago - Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 16GB (2x8GB) 3200MHz CL16 - cost around $170 back then. Now it's $150ish. Not much of drop, but a drop nonetheless.

So, we're almost at 2016 prices. I remember paying about $70 for the 16GB I have now.

Buying an 32GB ram at decent speeds can still be costly.

Wait......................... Most tech sites were scaring us claiming since November 2018 that prices will skyrocket in late January or early March because of Trump. Thank god I held out, and will now build my new rig with some nice cheap SSD and RAM.

Yeah, they drop on the charts in the internet.
I have yet to see a single DRR4 memory reasonable priced at retailers.

This was Gigabyte's statement back in September. As you can see memory would not be affected.
Also I think the second set of tariffs have been delayed by the Trump administration as they're making progress in trade talks.

Like their SSDs, Samsung is trying really hard to keep their DRam chip prices higher... shopping for B-die sticks is a little cheaper, but lots of room for improvement!

...;) You can always tell which "tech sites" read the fake news sites, and which don't...;)
I paid $180 in 2017 for my Patriot 2x8 3200MHz set--now selling @ an unreal $94 via Amazon! Price drop has definitely hit here!

I was about to type www.youpo.... in the url bar until I stumbled upon this arousing news. 😀 Way better than the initial site I wanted to visit. Please let it be July already. My upgrade is long overdue. 64GB here I come!!! Got my current 4x8GB for like €80 in 2011.

Yeah that's great & everything. RAM is cheaper. BUT everything else just skyrocketed. CPU prices & GPU prices are still outrageous... Motherboards, well... It's ridiculous.

The premium kit I bought in 2016 for ~230€ is still at 380 and hasn't moved that much. That was a G.Skill 32GB 3200 CL14 kit though, thats a pretty good sweetspot on timings and bandwidth IMHO.
For work I've been running a bunch of VMs lately and thought about upgrading the system to 64GB, but not while I pay almost double of what I paid originally.

I bought my 16gb 8x2 2400mhz ram for 98$ back when I got this 6700k so about 3 years ago, and just now the ram has drop back to those prices. I was gona buy another set of the ram I have on whim to make 8x4 for 32 gb but I cant find it nor do I see the need for it.

I paid around 700 SEK (70€) for my Corsair 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 2666Mhz CL16 Vengeance LPX Red in the summer of 2016. Now I see that the same kit costs 1100 SEK which is 110€ so it's definitely going in the right direction.

DDR4 is dropping because DDR5 is almost around the corner:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR5_SDRAM
I can't say if this is good news or bad news, because for me it looks like they already dropped DDR4, and lowering prices is just for getting rid of the "old product".
Considering that DDR5 will have double the bandwidth at even lower voltages than DDR4, there would be no reason to support DDR4 any longer (business-wise).
Even on the Server market, when companies are dependent on the OEM suppliers, they will be forced to upgrade since old systems won't be available any more.
That's junk.
It's because Corsair isn't supplying those RAM modules any longer, and some of the shops who still have those in stock consider selling it for a higher price because it's "limited". In my region these remain unsold for the whole year until it disappears completely someday. And some shops pretend that it would be that module, but when you buy it, you get a different model type - so some offers might be fake too.
Sometimes you can find them used in ebay for half of its original price or even less.
