What idiot buys alpha or beta ?
Considering that most releases these days are no better than a QA build, it could include you :P You should know then, yes? :P

most games are released beta these days, the publishers don't tell you though, they advertise it like it's gonna change the world.

Played arma2: breaking point more than arma2: dayz. bought the standalone. meh. A3: breaking point is out. No need for dayz anymore.

I played breaking point, i think its **** tbh. I dont think it is a patch on dayz even though its in pre-alpha. It does not have the immersion and variety of items like dayz has. The result is a totally different atmosphere.

The main issue I have is that everyone who buys this is just further supporting the destruction of the gaming industry. Games are already being released as a buggy unfinished mess with a **** them we have the money we'll fix it later attitude (hence the discontinuation of demo's as you'd see the mess and not buy it). If people show they are willing to pay ridiculous prices for basically none functional pre-alphas. It just shows we support and will pay for a broken disaster.

What destruction of the gaming industry? It's clearly labelled for what it is and has a warning discouraging you from buying it. Unless you were looking for the Battlefield 4 thread?

as long as dayz continues using a weird server system I doubt I will ever bother with it ever again.. I want to be able to host my own server offline if I choose since arma 2 and 3 already support it and since its just using the same engine anyways.,...

It's there to stop people from hosting their own 1-player servers, gear up and join public servers just to kill people. It has happened before, and that is why unofficial servers are banned from the central HIVE server.

Complaining about people supporting DayZ Standalone.... the actual people making it tell you not to buy it because it is an Alpha with an ass load of bugs. it is what it is and people still like it. Look at EA and what they did with Battlefield 4. They never told us it was going to release in an alpha'ish state. I like that DayZ is now a standalone game, I didn't want to buy ARMA 2 just to play the DayZ mod.. but now it is becoming a game of it's own and will soon be something very special. Counter Strike started as a mod, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress.. You know, mods are good, they drive innovation, new ideas, new experiences.

Well if me and my buds can run our own server and not be involved with the Central Server it would also remove the bogus lag we have to endure with that system we dont mind not having our stats globally shared . We live in a shart location latency with theyre server system is horrible

800,000 copies now. Not bad for a 30 dollar barebones alpha.

I have been wanting to get this, I was just waiting for the bugs to get ironed out....hopefully, they will, eventualy

Well I wouldn't expect it to have zero bugs considering they are selling it alpha... While BF4 was released as "full game" it wasn't anymore then beta considering how broken it was. Not the first time someone is selling alpha game to get funds for developing game to finish so I do not see the problem here. And good for them getting nice sales. We might get a really good game once it is finished.

Destroying the gaming industry? If anything these grass roots projects are some of the best gaming industry projects I have seen, ambitious and involved.

These days people are funding games without even getting access to an alpha version, so there nothing shocking about this game selling. It's either users paying for an alpha with the hope of getting something great when it's finished, or risking the IP will get bought by a big publisher who will turn it into something "safe" Games don't fund themselves.

Agreed. People throw money at these projects because they tend to be made my genuine lover of games. They tend to be more open to the community too and don't have big publishes poking them with a stick pushing for release dates. Also you can take a risk with something unique and see how many people are interested BEFORE spending millions on making a game only for it to flop at release.

When you take part in these early access games, you expect issues. Some of these projects turned out great in the recent past.

Costs too much for Alpha Come on guys and gals; $30? We need to quit paying so much for alpha/beta stuff. Thirty dollars is about what a indie game should cost, finished! If we keep supporting this kind of price its only going to get worse. (Understand, I WANT to buy DayZ. I went straight to steam to get it as soon as I saw they had it up because I want to support the developer (who I think got screwed over by a couple of other companies). I figured it would be about $15 for alpha/beta access, then more for the full game, but I just could not do $30.)
