Glad that the 2.5G trend start to gain more traction. I cabled my house with CAT6E cable and for now it is @ 1Gb speed. But I am waiting for upgrading everything to 2.5G as soon that NICs, switches have more availability and comes down in price a little.

Soooo, why exactly would I turn the Turbo mode off? At what point would I like my Ethernet switch to be a little more crap?

Why 2.5? Invest in 10g sfp+ saves hassle down the line.

this is the ultimate goal...but there are some hurdles. Like finding 10G NICs for all network connected devices.( NAS, AP, router )

i use https://mikrotik.com/product/CSS326-24G-2SplusRM and https://mikrotik.com/product/crs305_1g_4s_in excellent to get you going, good bang for the buck, then linked up to a ubiquiti udm pro. you may be interested in https://www.amazon.co.uk/10Gtek®-10GbE-Network-Intel-X540-T2/dp/B01ISV7TYM or https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ethernet-Broadcom-BCM57810S-Controller-Interface/dp/B06X9T683K too. Works out fairly cheap to get the network up and going.

If I'm not mistaken, 2.5 is the fastest you can reliably go with cheap cat5e cables. To go faster, you typically need to redo your wiring.

In all such Acceleration options, Low Latency always lowers total bandwidth, you need to choose one or the other

I think its the opposite, Jumbo Frames when Turbo mode switched OFF [Jumbo frames increase latency] and when Turbo-ON, Jumbo Frames Off, to get better latency

You can install Aquantia 10G Ethernet cards for 65$ per card, I have a bunch of these from same company but gen 1 with smaller heatsink and they great, zero issues, these new updated models have 3 times bigger heatsink and proper commercial looks [mine has red PCB lol] Then get any SFP+ switch and use 10G J45 transceivers, they can be found for 40-60$
