I'd assume due to such low clock speeds the 4 core processor would still be better in most situations. Though dx12 titles and programs that have good muti-thread might make better use of the cores... will be very power hungry mind you, limited to the gaming laptops most likely. nice to least see laptops change too

Id say not good for gaming laptops, they have a big enough issue dissipating the heat from quad core CPUs let alone six cores. It would just end up throttling earlier than an i7 so drop to an even lower speed.

When Intel gets on 10nm I bet these will be pretty great but until then thermals are a bit much.

Well it depends on what version of the quad core cpu you are talking about. The HK or the unlocked version of the CPU where you can overclock it there is where you might see issues. I have seen an issue with a gaming laptop with an 7700HK that was on Linus tech tips and it was OCed to 4.4ghz and that OC was not stable because there was thermal throttling up the wazoo so he had to back the OC to 4.2ghz and it was fine. The HQ CPUs you can OC them any further than what the Turbo boost does so less heat than the HK. Also the cooling inside gaming laptops are very well done. My MSI gaming laptop the cooling is very good. So I am sure laptop manufacturers will be able to keep heat to a minimum. Look at AMD they have a mobile 8 core Ryzen cpu thats in one of ASUS's laptops.

There will always be a trade-off with laptops but you gain the portability. That Asus with the 8 core Ryzen cpu mentioned above sounds mighty interesting and there will be a better monitor version available (higher refresh rate , not sure about the resolution ) .

You’re comparing apples to oranges. Most laptops have adequate cooling. The desktop CL is cooler than KL anyway.

Then how come some gaming laptops come with an SLI configuration if the cooling isn't good enough? Im sorry you are incorrect sir if some gaming laptops have an SLI configuration it's because the cooling inside of the laptop is very well done so it can happen. The same goes with the HK variant of mobile CPUs if they can be unlocked and overclocked then the cooling is good enough to support it.
