What was the problem with the EVO? I remember it just being a pain in the ass to install in.

Unfortunately, the mounting system is the same. They changed the fan and the top of the cooler. http://www.coolermaster.com/cooling/cpu-air-cooler/hyper-212x/ EDIT: And there's a version that ships with 2 fans for just $5 more.

I hope both since the mounting procedure was a PITA. Getting a Mugen 2 rev B on any kind of mobo with MOSFET cooling was a nightmare, but the 212 was even worse. But when installed the cooling performance is pretty amazing for the price!

The Hyper 212 Evo is still one of the best budget heatsinks IMO. It's what I still use. My only complaint would be that the heat pipes have gaps that I had to fill with thermal paste. Would be nice with a polished bottom, but I don't really expect that from a budget HS.

Just about to do a build with an a4-5300 would people recommend one of these rather than the stock cooler/fan? Tbh the pc is just for word processing and surfing so is an aftermarket cooler necessary? (of course for a main/gaming build i use aftermarket coolers..well waterblocks).

I use the EVO to cool overclocked and delidded 3770K. It's absolutely awesome for the price. I'm not sure the new version can bring anything new to the table.

My freaking 212 Evo cools off this 2500k at 4.8Ghz. Not that Sandy is getting that hot but this is an amazing cooler for its price. Was using TX3 too, also good choice.

Considering how small actual CPU silicons are getting I think having heatpipes so far apart in not best of ideas.

Having built a few AMD A4 systems (20+), just use the stock cooler as the A4 doesn't require much cooling.

You can pick up a Rajintek Aidos for £10-15 and it outperforms the Evo 212. Not sure about this new revision, but I doubt it runs as cheap.

Thanks will save some money then. @darkest cheers for the tip, can always buy that later if I find paste/cooling isnt good enough...
